Pohang izakaya for oden nabe and pudding: Yomo
In short
Yomo is a new yakitori izakaya on Yanghakcheon-ro in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. We had the Kansai oden nabe set, chicken skin, and whole grilled garlic, with the garlic skewer and dessert pudding standing out. Verdict: a nice spot for solo drinks or a group night out under soft lighting.

Yomo, a new izakaya at Pohang's Yanghak Intersection
I visited Yomo (요모), a newly opened izakaya at Yanghak Intersection on Yanghakcheon-ro in Pohang.
What does Yomo look like outside?
Let me show you the exterior.

This is Yomo, a newly opened izakaya near Jungang Church. I was wondering when something like this had opened, then I remembered that I've been away from Pohang for quite a long time now, haha.

How should I put it? The exterior feels like a restaurant you might come across down a quiet side street in Japan. Plenty of Japanese vibes ✨
Inside, from solo-drinking bar seats to private rooms
Here's what it looks like inside—

There was a bar table for solo diners. It looked very doable for drinking alone, and the kitchen was open, so it looked very clean too.

The interior was roomier than I expected. The tables were spaced reasonably well, and it seemed fine for a work dinner or a larger group of friends. As you would expect from an izakaya, it was neither overly bright nor overly dark! I actually preferred Yomo's soft lighting.

There are also counter-style bar seats by the window. Being able to enjoy Yomo while looking outside made it seem full of atmosphere. And there are private rooms too! I liked that they looked good for a more private meal.
Yomo's yakitori and nabe menu
So, what is on the menu? ⤵️⤵️

As you would expect from a place known for yakitori, there were quite a lot of yakitori options. For soup dishes, there was Kansai oden nabe, and they also sold tokkuri sake carafes and regular drinks. There was a huge variety of alcohol—unfortunately, tsukune was sold out that day, so I couldn't have it ㅜㅜ
This is what I ordered. I was really looking forward to it ⤵️⤵️
- Oden nabe set
- Chicken skin
- Whole grilled garlic

The cabbage salad that came out after ordering—cabbage dishes are essential at izakayas and yakitori places, haha.

Kansai oden nabe, plenty for two
The Kansai oden nabe came out first. We had been craving a warm broth, and the soup was so refreshing and delicious ㅜㅜ There was plenty for two people, definitely not a skimpy portion! The presentation passed too—it had bok choy and daikon radish, making the broth so refreshing. There were different kinds of fish cake as well.

I love this curly fish cake the most. The most basic things are the classics, and classics are always the tastiest—the broth was delicious ㅜ

Sweet-savory chicken skin and garlic skewers
The chicken-skin skewers came out after the fish-cake nabe. They came with a little mayonnaise, and the chicken skin had been grilled with a sweet-savory sauce on it, so it was really good ㅜ

And this is the garlic skewer I ordered separately. I always order garlic skewers when I go to a yakitori place—when they're grilled really well, they have zero garlic smell and are fluffy like steamed potatoes, you know? These were grilled well. A tiny bit more cooking would have made them literally perfect, but they were still delicious!

These four kinds of skewers are included in the oden nabe set!

Bacon tomato rolls, made by wrapping bacon around cherry tomatoes and grilling them! After the garlic skewers, these were my favorite—the chicken-heart skewers were good too!

Of course, drinks can't be left out with tasty bar food—we had about 2.5 bottles, maybe not quite 3, between the two of us that day, including our first stop!

The dessert pudding you have to try at Yomo
The pudding we ordered for dessert. Everyone, you absolutely have to get this—it is seriously delicious, haha. A guy at the next table said, “Wow, this is insanely good,” and I wondered what could be so good; then I looked over and he was eating the exact same pudding, hahaha. That is how strongly I recommend it. I visited the newly opened Yomo izakaya, and it was nice! I also remember the female owner being incredibly kind—
