Suwon Vietnamese restaurant for bun cha and grilled pork: Madam Hao
In short
Madam Hao is a Vietnamese restaurant near Ajou University in Suwon, Gyeonggi. I tried the 13,000 won bun cha and four cha gio for 8,000 won, with smoky grilled meat, fresh vegetables, and sweet-tangy nuoc mam sauce. Verdict: a lovely pick for lunch or a date-night meal.

I really love food that feels light on the stomach yet clean and satisfying! You know those moments when you suddenly crave Vietnamese food that is fresh but really wakes up your appetite~
I used to only go to ordinary pho places near home, but as I looked for somewhere with both a great atmosphere and great food, I somehow ended up finding this delicious spot that really captures the local vibe 🤍

This time, I visited Madam Hao, a Vietnamese restaurant near Ajou University in Suwon that feels like it has transplanted Hanoi street vibes right here ✨

The wood-toned interior and rattan decorations catch your eye right from the entrance! Even before going in, I already felt like I was on a trip to Vietnam 💗 Since it stays open until 3 AM, it seems perfect for a late dinner or a casual drink, too.
Madam Hao's interior atmosphere 🌿

Once inside, the warmly toned wooden furniture and mood-setting bamboo rattan pendant lights really bring the atmosphere to life. The exotic black-and-white photos on the walls make it feel modern yet full of local character!!
The tables are nicely spaced and the interior is tidy, so it is great for meeting friends, and I highly recommend it for dates too. If you are looking for a restaurant for a blind date or date near Gwanggyo or Ajou University, a place with this kind of atmosphere is just perfect~!

At Madam Hao, a Vietnamese restaurant, they bring out crispy, savory shrimp crackers as soon as you arrive. They were just right for cleansing the palate.
Madam Hao menu and order

You can order easily on the tablet installed at each table. Everything looked delicious—pho, banh mi, pad thai, rice bowls, and more—so I spent ages deciding 🥹
Still, when you come to a Vietnamese restaurant, you absolutely have to try bun cha (Vietnamese grilled pork with noodles)! I ordered their signature ✅ bun cha (₩13,000), four cha gio (Vietnamese fried spring rolls) (₩8,000) as a side, and a Sprite ✨ They also have an event where you receive two free cha gio for writing a Naver receipt review, so definitely join in and try them 🙆🏻♀️

Vietnamese chili sauce and hoisin sauce were neatly set out on one side of the table, and there was even a sign explaining how to enjoy the food. The owner's thoughtful touch really stood out 🤍

How did the bun cha and cha gio taste? ✨

Bun Cha ₩13,000
At last, today's main dish, bun cha! First of all, the plating is such an eye-opener 👀

It comes in a bamboo basket shaped like a traditional Vietnamese carrying frame, and it was so pretty that I simply had to take photos.

The traditional Hanoi charcoal-grilled pork is thoroughly infused with that smoky flavor, so it is tender and incredibly flavorful even on its own.

Pile springy rice noodles, smoky meat, and fresh vegetables onto your small plate, then pour on plenty of the sweet-tangy nuoc mam (Vietnamese fish sauce)...!!! It is fresh with none of that greasy feeling, yet so addictive and satisfying ❤️ They were generous with both meat and vegetables, so the portion was quite filling too.

Cha Gio, 4 pieces ₩8,000
You cannot leave out cha gio, bun cha's soul-mate pairing! The outside is fried rice paper, so it is seriously crackly and crisp, while the inside is packed with meat, glass noodles, and vegetables, making the texture so good. Crispy outside, tender inside!!
Dip one into the sweet-tangy chili sauce served alongside, and its nutty richness really blooms—it goes unbelievably well with the bun cha 👍
With clean, beautifully prepared food and a pretty interior full of local character, this was a Vietnamese restaurant where both my mouth and eyes were happy! I recommend Madam Hao to anyone looking for a casual lunch near Gwanggyo or Ajou University in Suwon, or a date or dinner in a place with a lovely atmosphere 🤍 Next time, I have to come back for pho and banh mi!
