Gyeongju café for fruit mochi gifts: Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is a takeout dessert shop in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, serving seasonal fruit mochi. I brought home four fresh chocolate, fresh pineapple cream, and fig yogurt mochi to enjoy with coffee. Verdict: a fresh, generously sized travel snack or gift.

Even when I travel to Gyeongju, I cannot resist pairing dessert with wine 🍷 I barely managed to snag Tareudang (타르당) right before closing while passing through Hwangridan-gil. Three kinds of seasonal fruit mochi: fresh chocolate, fresh pineapple cream, and fig yogurt. The combination of big, fresh fruit and chewy mochi was perfect... 🤍 The lightly sweet yogurt was just right with coffee, and one piece was surprisingly filling, so I recommend them as a Gyeongju travel snack!

The fruit lineup changes with the season, so I have a very clear reason to return. 🤤 I joined the receipt-review event and received an insulated bag, so I got them safely home from Gyeongju 🧊 The box packaging is also so cute—such a thoughtful gift option too 🛍️

Tareudang takeout dessert in Gyeongju
Visiting Tareudang for fruit mochi

Whenever I return from a trip to Gyeongju, my little travel ritual is to bring back a distinctive local dessert or cake and enjoy it with wine at night. On this solo Gyeongju trip too, I could not simply pass by a dessert stop, so while walking through Hwangridan-gil, I stopped at Tareudang, the premium takeout dessert shop I had been keeping my eye on.

It is already known as a dessert spot in Hwangridan-gil, so I visited right before closing with my heart in my throat. Luckily, there were three types of mochi still left, so I grabbed them right away! I bought four in total across the three varieties. 🤎

Seasonal fruit mochi lineup

A seasonal fruit mochi lineup bursting with sweet-tart flavor 🥝🍇🍑 The ones I scored were fresh chocolate mochi, fresh pineapple cream mochi, and fig yogurt mochi. Prices vary a little by fruit, and seeing that there was a separate summer-fruit lineup, it seems the seasonal menu changes according to what fruit is in season. I especially love a distinctive dessert shop that captures the seasons like this—it feels new every time I visit. ✨

I joined the Naver receipt-review event in the shop, and they kindly packed everything carefully with an insulated bag and ice pack. Thanks to that, the mochi made the long trip from Gyeongju to my home safely, without being crushed or melting.

One layer of plastic and one layer of paper made for two layers in total—a convenient package for eating right away.

Clean-tasting mochi that was not overly sweet

As soon as I got home, I tried them with a cup of coffee. Since I was going to eat them straight away, I did not ask for separate box packaging, but the box packaging I saw in the shop was very cute and polished. It would be such a thoughtful way to pack a Gyeongju travel-snack gift or presents for friends and family. 🎁

Unlike the mochi I knew, these were seriously generous in size. No wonder one alone fills you up...

Generously sized fruit mochi

As I tried each one, the seasonal fruit inside was truly fresh and generously sized, giving them a great bite.

There was a whole fig inside, and the pineapple pieces were huge too, so the texture was lovely and the sweetness spread through every bite,,💛🍍💛

Fig yogurt mochi

Made with a lightly sweet yogurt base, the fig yogurt mochi was easy to eat, clean-tasting, soft, and gently sweet. I love figs in this season,,💕 I bought two fig ones.

Fresh pineapple cream mochi

The natural sweetness of the fruit, with juice bursting out, and the soft cream came together perfectly with the chewy mochi in the fresh pineapple cream mochi 🍍🍍🍍

Fresh chocolate mochi

🍫 The chewy mochi rice cake itself was so good, and the rich fresh chocolate inside made this fresh chocolate mochi the definition of an elegant dessert. The balance of fruit, rice cake, and cream was really good, and each flavor had its own distinct charm. It was not excessively sweet, making it excellent as a dessert, and the substantial size made one surprisingly satisfying 😋

If you are looking for a good place to eat in Hwangridan-gil, I highly recommend taking dessert away from here! It is perfect as a light Gyeongju snack while walking the Hwangridan-gil alleys toward Cheomseongdae or Donggung and Wolji, and it is equally lovely to take back to your accommodation or home and enjoy atmospherically, like I did.

If you are looking for a proper Gyeongju fruit sando (fruit sandwich) and mochi spot that is generous with healthy, fresh fruit, I hope you will stop by Tareudang on Sajjeong-ro in Hwangridan-gil,,🙂 I am already looking forward to seeing which seasonal-fruit lineup arrives next season,,💞
