In short

Buja Hodu is a walnut pastry café in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. I packed a 24-piece mix for 27,000 won and tried red bean, pea cream cheese, and matcha fillings; gift wrapping and delivery are available. Verdict: a memorable gift snack with especially nutty whole walnuts.

Introduction to Buja Hodu walnut pastries on Gyeongju’s Hwangridan-gil
Walnut pastries made with premium walnuts
See the size of those walnuts..? Seriously premium walnuts.. the best walnut pastries of my life.

Buja Hodu, a standout walnut pastry spot on Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju, carefully makes its treats with naturally less-sweet filling and only carefully selected premium walnuts.

Delivery is available too, so I thought it would be really nice for walnut pastry thank-you gifts or holiday gift sets for people you care about. And above all, it’s delicious..!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I don’t even like walnut pastries that much..? But this was seriously SO good..; I’m introducing it immediately with all my personal bias. Let’s go 〰️

Buja Hodu purchased after catching its nutty scent

At first I was just going to look around and walk by, but then I caught that nutty scent. It made me think of my parents, and I thought it would be nice to share with them. So I ended up buying a whole lot! (Though I ate the most. Hahaha.)

Gift-ready bojagi wrapping information for walnut pastries

Thank-you and holiday gift wrapping

Bojagi (traditional Korean cloth) wrapping is available, which makes it perfect for holiday gifts, snacks to remember a Gyeongju trip by, or walnut pastry thank-you gifts. They also have a Naver Smart Store, so delivery? Of course it’s possible!

I think it would also be a great option for the upcoming September holiday gifts.

Ice cream affogato pamphlet

The ice cream affogato—I saw this pamphlet and thought, “Cute..” But now that I know how Gyeongju Buja Hodu tastes, it’s changed to, “I want to eat it..”.....

What does almond praline taste like.... I really want to try it ...ㅠ

Walnut pastry flavors and limited sales

There are four flavors in total.

  • Original red bean paste
  • Pea cream cheese
  • Matcha
  • Almond praline

The almond praline flavor is limited to 50 pieces per day, so if you want to try it, you need to visit early!!! I went around 3 p.m., but it was sold out, so sadly I didn’t get to try it...

Rice-flour walnut pastries baking

Baking away ·· ෆ They make the walnut pastries with rice-flour dough here, and the whole walnuts give them an unreal texture. Plus, the red bean filling is less sweet, making this a Hwangridan-gil snack you can enjoy feeling good about.

Pea cream cheese walnut pastry flavor

Pea cream cheese

For someone like me who loves cream cheese, the pea paste + cream cheese combination was absolutely perfect! The smooth filling and cream cheese came together with nutty walnuts, and it was sweet, nutty, soft, and honestly so delicious.

Matcha walnut pastry flavor

Matcha

The matcha flavor was lighter than I expected, so it felt similar to the pea filling. The characteristic matcha aroma isn’t strong, so it’s a flavor anyone can enjoy without being divisive.

Whole-walnut red bean paste walnut pastry flavor

Red bean paste

There really is a whole walnut inside, so it’s an amazingly nutty, feel-good snack!!! Sweet and nutty flavors fill your mouth. As expected, the original flavor is the best. And because it’s less sweet, I could keep popping them without worrying. Haha.

A must-stop on a Gyeongju trip: a Hwangridan-gil favorite
