Gyeongju café's rain-proof apple pie: Gyeongju Tokyo Pie
In short
Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a bakery café in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, where you can take away handmade apple pie. I packed six apple pies at 2 PM on a weekday without waiting, and they stayed crisp even after being carried around in rainy, humid weather. Verdict: an apple-pie stop I wanted to make again before leaving Gyeongju.

After a delicious meal in Hwangnidan-gil, I was craving something sweet, so I finally visited Gyeongju Tokyo Pie (경주도쿄파이), which had been on my list for ages. This was a sponsored visit, but it honestly became my apple pie of a lifetime. Today, I’m sharing my takeaway review of an apple pie that stayed crisp all day despite the miserable rainy weather. If you’re looking for a thoughtful, not-too-obvious dessert gift near Hwangnidan-gil, pay attention!
Visiting at 2 PM on a Weekday and Menu Ordering Tips
We had a filling meal in Hwangnidan-gil and arrived at Tokyo Pie at around 2 PM on a weekday. Luckily, it was an in-between weekday hour, so we could order straight away without waiting.

Here are the menu and prices at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, a popular Hwangnidan-gil dessert spot. Considering that each pie contains a big piece of fresh apple, I think ₩4,500 is very reasonable.

I heard more pies come out after 2:30 PM on weekdays. I had another stop to make, so I placed a satisfying order from the pies that were ready, but if you want to try different flavors, it might be a good idea to call ahead.

There were stacks and stacks of apple boxes in front of the shop. Seeing them made it feel even more real that these are genuinely handmade pies with whole apples inside, so I got even more excited.

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, a Hwangnidan-gil favorite, was running several events, including birthday, timer, and review events. If you have time while waiting, you might want to give one a try.

Here’s a little ordering tip! Even if the display case looks empty, pies are continuously being baked in the kitchen, so if there’s a flavor you want, I recommend gently asking the owner first. ✨
A Neat Six-Piece Package That Makes a Great Gift
We packed a generous six-piece set of apple pies to eat as a late-night snack at our accommodation and again after getting home. As long as the pies are ready, they pack them carefully and quickly, with no wait needed.

I especially loved that the box included a guide explaining how to store the pies and enjoy them at their best. It felt less like simply buying baked goods and more like receiving a thoughtfully prepared dessert gift, so it would make a lovely Gyeongju travel souvenir for friends and family.

Apple Pie That Did Not Go Soggy Even on a Rainy Day
Back at the hotel that evening, we took out the pies to try them. The most surprising thing was that, although it had rained and the weather was quite damp that day, the pies had not gone soggy at all. I had carried the pie box around all over Gyeongju in humid weather all day, yet the outside was still perfectly crisp. It was honestly amazing.

It’s so much tastier than the apple pie shop in the basement of Lotte Department Store in Jamsil that I often visit.. Usually, pies have diced, apple-jam-like filling and taste overly sweet. This place is different. The moment you bite in, a rich, refined butter aroma from the pastry fills your mouth. Inside is a whole piece of gently sweet stewed apple, and the balance between the nutty pastry and sweet apple is incredibly good. Officially a Gyeongju dessert favorite!! (Getting excited.)

If it has been a while since you packed them, try warming the pies very lightly in an oven or toaster. They become much crispier and more delicious, almost like they were just baked!

Why I Wanted to Return Before Leaving Gyeongju
✨Final thoughts: It would have been a disaster if I had left Gyeongju without coming here—100% returning. From the deep flavor of the buttery pastry and sweet apples to that astonishing crispness even on a rainy day, this was a flawless Gyeongju dessert spot. I wholeheartedly recommend Gyeongju Tokyo Pie to anyone craving a good dessert after a meal in Hwangnidan-gil or wanting to pick up thoughtful gifts on the way home, with both hands full.

And yes, I actually went back the next day... 👍🏻
