In short

Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch is an all-you-can-eat pork rib restaurant on Igok-dong-ro in Dalseo, Daegu, visited here for the first time with a friend after the restaurant moved to a bigger space. I went to Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch with a friend on a day when I was really craving pork ribs. I'd written an out-of-pocket post about this place before — it was my favorite ribs spot, one I ordered from constantly for delivery too, ribs plus naengmyeon plus doenjang jjigae — but the restaurant had since moved to a much bigger space, so this was my first visit after the expansion.

Outside the new Igok-dong location

The ground floor of the building is a dedicated parking lot, so I could park with zero hassle and just head straight upstairs,

and the standing sign at the entrance advertised a lunch special of pork ribs for two at ₩20,900 — such great value!!!!!!

Inside Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch and the kids' playroom

Maybe because it just moved and expanded, the interior was spacious and clean. What impressed me most was the kids' playroom — bigger than I expected. Of all the restaurant playrooms I've seen recently, this one had the most space and was the best maintained, and several kids were happily playing in there.

We didn't even have to think about other options — went straight for the all-you-can-eat pork ribs and headed straight to the salad bar! (We also added mul-naengmyeon and doenjang jjigae.)

What's on the self-bar at Gankeun Galbi?

The self-bar at Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch had all kinds of food — from bunsik (Korean snack food) like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and dakgangjeong (crispy sweet fried chicken) to vegetables to go with the meat. Even if you order the all-you-can-eat pork ribs, you can also help yourself to unlimited heart and gizzard, and pork skin. They also had domestic pork belly available, but since we'd only ordered pork ribs, we decided to focus on the ribs haha. Choice and focus, you know?? (Is that even the right expression here lol.)

Wait, what?? Even the nostalgic tri-color ice cream!!!!

Hangang ramyeon machine and jjapaghetti

There was also a Hangang ramyeon machine, with not just soup ramyeon but jjapaghetti (black bean noodles) too, so even though it wasn't Sunday, I became a jjapaghetti chef for the day haha.

How did the all-you-can-eat pork ribs taste?

Pork ribs on the grill pan

We diligently grilled the pork ribs on the pan. The meat was tender with a faint charcoal aroma running through it — so good.

Pork ribs turning golden brown

The sweet-savory umami of the pork ribs had me giving an automatic thumbs up!!!

Recipe instructions for making jaeraegi

There was a super simple recipe posted for making your own jaeraegi (quick fresh kimchi) — I followed the instructions and ended up with a spicy-tangy-sweet jaeraegi!!

We ate the golden-browned ribs with pickled onion, and also wrapped them up neatly in lettuce with pungent grilled garlic on top.

Just looking at the photos makes my mouth water again...ㅜㅜ

Even after going back and forth to the self-bar so many times, we could eat as much as we wanted without feeling self-conscious at all — pure happiness!!!!

Mul-naengmyeon and soft tofu doenjang jjigae

We also ordered naengmyeon and doenjang jjigae, and a serving robot brought them right to our table haha.

Mul-naengmyeon with floating ice shards
Doenjang jjigae with soft tofu

The cold noodles, floating with icy shards, wrapped around the sweet-savory ribs to make an absolutely perfect pairing.

We also ate the jjapaghetti we'd cooked at the self-bar together with the pork ribs — and that turned out to be a surprisingly delicious combo too.

We finished up with doenjang jjigae and rice. This particular doenjang jjigae is distinctive for having soft tofu in it — the soft, silky tofu going down easy in the doenjang broth kept me spooning it up even though I was already full.

Is Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch worth a visit?

I was extremely satisfied being able to enjoy pork ribs and the self-bar to my heart's content until I was stuffed. If you want to eat great-value, quality pork ribs to your heart's content, I highly recommend Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch, a favorite restaurant in Igok-dong, Daegu.
