8pm ₩21,900 pork belly set at a Seongseo, Daegu BBQ spot: Gankeun

In short

Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch is an all-you-can-eat pork rib and Korean pork belly restaurant in Igok-dong, Dalseo, Daegu. Arriving at 8pm after a trip to Seongseo E-mart, the writer ordered the 21,900-won domestic pork belly and pork rib set and ate pork belly, pork ribs and pork skin plus self-bar tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), ramyeon and milk patbingsu (shaved ice with red beans). With the building's own parking lot and a kids' playroom with a trampoline, Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch suits family dinners with children especially well.

I first got to know Gankeun Galbi about two years ago when I ordered their pork ribs for delivery and loved them. Then I sort of forgot about the place until I happened to be at Seongseo E-mart around 8pm, wondering "where can I even get dinner at this hour?" — and that's how I ended up here!

I loved that they stay open late, and I got to eat my fill of not just pork ribs but pork belly too. Clean interior, plus a playroom for kids — here's my review of Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch!

Where is Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch, and is there parking?

Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building at 71 Igok-dong-ro, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, South Korea. The building has its own parking lot, so it's easy to visit by car too.

You can park right beneath the building, so the walk from your car is basically nothing. Good 👍🏼

Looks like it'll be a solid Seongseo lunch spot too.

Inside Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch and its kids' playroom

The inside of Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch felt way cleaner than I remembered — maybe they redid the interior. When you hear "all-you-can-eat meat place," you usually picture something loud and chaotic, but this spot felt surprisingly tidy and comfortable.

The tables are separated sofa-style booths, which looked great for family meals. There's also a spot in the back to hang up coats.

When we visited there were a lot of families, especially groups with several kids at gathering tables. I initially thought it was just a popular family dinner spot, but one big reason became clear — the kids' playroom ⭐️

It's made of soft padded material, with a trampoline and a slide inside, and it all looked clean and well kept.

Especially from the enclosed tables in the back, you can watch the playroom through the window while eating — great setup for kids to play while parents eat. Baby chairs are available too, so it's a strong choice for dining out with young children.

How much is all-you-can-eat at Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch?

Once you sit down, you choose your all-you-can-eat set from the kiosk. There are several tiers depending on the type of meat.

  • Pork rib — ₩19,900
  • Domestic pork belly + pork rib — ₩21,900
  • Makchang (beef intestine) + domestic pork belly + pork rib — ₩23,900
  • Premium beef short rib + makchang + domestic pork belly + pork rib — ₩28,900

You can also check à la carte prices on the menu photo. The prices are already low, and the pork belly is domestic! Apparently the Kangbongsu domestic pork belly is a new menu item, which is great news for anyone who loves pork belly.

We ordered the domestic pork belly + pork rib all-you-can-eat, one beer, one soju, and one doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew).

One great thing about the kiosk here — usually when you have a request that isn't listed, you have to flag down staff, but here the kiosk has really detailed options for that. There's even a "please refill the dessert bar" button you can tap directly. When I went it was already stocked, so I didn't need it haha.

What's on the self-bar at Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch?

At Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch, staff bring you the grill pan, and you help yourself to meat and side dishes at the self-bar. The meat selection was neatly laid out.

I originally wanted pork rib, but since the pork belly is domestic, I grabbed that first. Choosing the rib all-you-can-eat also gets you access to beef heart and pork skin. Spoiler: the pork skin was so good I kept eating it until the very end.

There was makchang too, but I skipped the refill today. The premium beef short rib isn't on the self-bar — you order it and staff bring it to you.

Side dishes and sauces are also self-serve — mix and match as you like. There's one portion of scallion salad per person to go with the pork belly, and the onion sauce that goes with the ribs uses the same sauce as the lettuce salad, so I combined them into one bowl. Nice that you can grab as much as you want. Good stuff to settle your stomach before the meat starts grilling.

There was also seaweed soup, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), fried snacks, and dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken). I only grabbed a little tteokbokki at first, but it was so good I went back for a refill haha.

Drinks, ice cream, milk patbingsu (shaved ice with red bean), and coffee are all self-serve too. And ramyeon here is also all-you-can-eat! They have Jin Ramen and Chapagetti, plus you can add egg.

You can really eat until you're stuffed here 👍🏼 Extras like alcohol and doenjang jjigae get delivered by robot server.

Is the domestic pork belly any good for an all-you-can-eat place?

The domestic pork belly at Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch had no off smell — passed the test! Meat quality is always the big worry at all-you-can-eat places, right?

Domestic pork belly grilling on the pan

We started with pork belly first. Pork rib basically tastes like its seasoning, but pork belly's quality shows through immediately if the meat itself isn't good. It was savory and delicious grilled up. I only grabbed two pieces at first not knowing how it would taste, but it was so good I kept refilling.

I loved that you can get unlimited domestic pork belly at this price.

Pork ribs, pork skin and swapping the grill pan yourself

After working through the pork belly, we moved on to pork ribs. The grill pan for pork belly is different from the one for ribs, so we asked staff to swap it.

After that, you can swap the rib grill pan yourself using the fresh pans set out at each table! Pork ribs need frequent pan swaps, and since every table has plenty of fresh pans on hand, it was super convenient.

Gankeun Galbi's pork ribs are already known to be delicious — the sauce is so good! I liked that the meat quality doesn't drop just because it's all-you-can-eat.

There's a little fire extinguisher-like tool right next to it for putting out flare-ups.

And pork ribs... you all know how they just keep going down endlessly, right? I think I ate even more of these than the pork belly lol.

And as a bonus treat, pork skin! Since the rib sauce is so good, the pork skin is delicious with it too. Chewy and satisfying — the kind of thing you reach for even when you're already stuffed but still want one more bite.

Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and milk patbingsu for dessert

There's ramyeon, but after all that meat, you have to have doenjang jjigae. It had crab in it and plenty of ingredients, though personally I found it a bit bland. I added two eggs to the ramyeon too.

Plenty of ice cream, plenty of patbingsu. My pick was the patbingsu! You can load it up with as much red bean as you want, so good... and since it uses milk ice instead of water ice, it's even better. I loaded on rice cakes and fruit too, and left completely full even after dessert.

Who should visit Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch, and when?

On a day when you want to eat as much meat as you want. Highly recommend this Igok-dong and Seongseo restaurant in Daegu for family dinners and gatherings with kids. If you're looking for an all-you-can-eat BBQ spot in Seongseo, remember Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch — next time I'm curious about the makchang and the beef short rib too.
