Doesn't everyone have that sudden moment when they just want to chop their hair off? I'd kept long hair for years, and then the bob bug hit me hard... In the end, I made the big decision to cut it into a bob for the first time in years — and get a perm on top of it!

I went to a hair salon in Gangseo-dong, Cheongju — Salon Of Gangseo Branch. Here's my honest review!

Where is Salon Of Gangseo Branch and how do you get there?

Salon Of Gangseo Branch is on the 2nd floor of 108 Gangseo-ro, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk. Since Cheongju has no subway, access by car or public transit really matters. This place is in Gangseo-dong near the Cheongju bus terminal, so it's easy to reach by bus, and it's also near Connect Hyundai Cheongju — a really good spot!

What is the salon like inside?

Salon Of Gangseo Branch has an overall modern, clean atmosphere. The space isn't cramped at all, it's airy and comfortable. Even sitting for a long time, I didn't feel tired.

They even gave me a soft cushion to rest against during the treatment ~

Had a cup of coffee too ~ it felt healing, like being at a café ☕️

The detailed 1:1 consultation for semi-curly hair

Honestly, the thing I cared about most this time was please, please don't let me end up with triangle kimbap (rice ball) head lol

Cutting long hair off after years was already nerve-wracking, and adding a perm on top made me worry it could puff out sideways and end up looking like a triangle kimbap. So before the treatment, I told them the look I wanted, and they carefully checked the condition of my hair.

I have semi-curly hair, but... it's not like I ever really see the back of my own head, right? The designer checked my whole head and told me the curl at the back is actually worse than on the sides (I had no idea!). She also explained beforehand that perming it as-is could make the back look even more puffed out.

I'm not really the type who does super careful hair maintenance at home, so I really appreciated this!!!! Instead of just doing exactly what the customer wants, she thought about whether it's actually manageable once I get home — so good •• 🫶🏻

In the end, considering hair length, thickness, and future upkeep, we decided on a bob with a vintage perm plus fringe magic straightening!

Alright, time for this tired-out hair — years of bleach, dye, and perms — to finally go. Goodbye, my hair...

First, she started by neatly straightening the fringe with volume magic straightening (fringe magic is a must for curly-haired people 🥹)

I'd actually said I wanted more thinned-out fringe, but she honestly talked me out of it since it would need to pull hair from the crown, saying it'd probably be better not to lol So I just trusted the expert and let her handle it~!

Looking back now, I'm so glad I didn't push for it.. thank you for talking me out of it, teacher..🤍

This is the shampoo room! The chair automatically reclines back when you lie down — it was so cool.

After the wash, time to blow dry. With a bob, it dries twice as fast — so happy about that..

She applied the perm solution and rolled my hair up section by section.

At some point I kept sniffling and clearing my throat, and the designer thought I'd caught a cold and checked the salon's temperature lol (Actually it was just my rhinitis, haha ㅠ.ㅠ) I was really grateful for that kind of thoughtful attention..🥺

How the finished bob vintage perm turned out

At first my reflection in the mirror felt a little unfamiliar, but the more I looked, the more I loved it >ㅅ< With a bob, the smallest details make a huge difference in the feel, but since it was designed to fit my hair type and head shape, it came out looking stylish instead of dated!!

Rather than stubbornly insisting on exactly the style I wanted, going with what suited my hair condition turned out to be the right call.

How to style the bob perm at home

There's no point in pretty hair that only lasts the day you leave the salon, right? Before I left, she explained in detail, step by step, how to style it myself at home.

For someone as ungifted with styling as me, she gave really practical home-care tips! I had zero confidence in blow-drying it perfectly every morning, but this style holds its shape even with a rough dry, so I'm really satisfied (❁´◡`❁)

What I loved most was that instead of just doing whatever style I asked for, she was honest about the parts that would actually be hard for me to maintain. Avoided the triangle kimbap head too haha — this is exactly the vibe of bob perm I wanted ➰🩵

After sticking to long hair for years, chopping it into a bob like this really gave me a proper refresh >..<

Since it had been so long since I'd had a bob, I was worried going in, but from the consultation onward, they factored in my hair type, curl level, and everyday care habits when deciding the direction — so I could relax and trust them with it.
