Cheonan crab soup restaurant for a mother-in-law lunch: Huni Gejang

I visited Cheonan Independence Hall of Korea with my mother-in-law. She has always been interested in history and in the children's education too, so we decided to look around together and have a little date.

Independence Hall of Korea is great for adults to explore, but there are more spaces than I expected where children can look around and take part in activities too. This time it was a date for just my mother-in-law and me, but next time I really should bring my son along.

After taking our time around Independence Hall of Korea, it was lunchtime. I wanted to treat my mother-in-law to a delicious meal, so we looked for somewhere nearby and headed to Yuryang-dong in Cheonan. There are so many good restaurants in Yuryang-dong, but our choice that day was crab soup and soy-marinated crab! Since I was dining with my mother-in-law, I put a little more thought than usual into choosing the restaurant.

Huni Gejang after Independence Hall of Korea

Huni Gejang is a Korean restaurant known for crab soup and soy-marinated crab. The moment we got out of the car, the building looked neat and quite large overall. Its wide windows made the interior look bright. It felt well maintained, so I liked it from the first impression.

It is an easy distance for a meal of delicious crab soup and soy-marinated crab after touring Cheonan Independence Hall of Korea, making it a nice stop to combine with your visit. Have a good meal at Huni Gejang, then stop by Gakwonsa Temple for a perfect itinerary.

What are the parking and interior like?

Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch has a large building, and its parking lot was also really spacious. There was plenty of room to park, so it was convenient, and visitors arriving by car can dine without worrying about parking. Parking is quietly important when visiting with family, so the large lot made it feel even more comfortable :)

My mother-in-law and I went inside, and the spacious dining room gave it an unhurried feel. The distance between tables matters too, and these were nicely spread out. The wood-toned interior created a comfortable atmosphere, while sunlight came through the large windows, making it pleasant for a meal.

Crab soup and soy-marinated crab menu

Orders were placed through the kiosk at the table. Looking over the mains, there were various options, from crab set meals and roe-filled crab set meals to crab soup. Our reason for visiting that day, though, was crab soup and soy-marinated crab.

The crab soup came in small, medium, and large sizes, with the price changing according to the number of crabs. There were also extras such as a bowl of rice, pot-cooked rice, and ramen noodles, plus a separate menu for refilling side dishes.

From side dishes to crab soup and pot-cooked rice

Not long after we ordered, the side dishes began arriving one by one. Each was neatly presented, and I thought it would be nice for a meal with my mother-in-law. And there was fluffy steamed egg on the table too!

Then the crab soup we had been waiting for arrived! The large pot was generously filled with crabs, topped with plenty of green onion and onion, and it already looked spicy and refreshing. As it began bubbling away, a spicy aroma rose from the broth, and I could tell the deep flavor of the crab would infuse it beautifully^^ The crabs were bigger than I expected too, so there was plenty to share with my mother-in-law.

My mother-in-law said the pot-cooked rice was delicious too. I think she loved having it warm alongside the crab soup.

The crabs in the soup were plump and meaty, so they were wonderful to eat.

The crab soup bubbled away with such care, and the crab meat was this delicious!! More than anything, I kept spooning up the refreshing broth. With the pot-cooked rice, I just couldn't stop eating.

A day in Cheonan with my mother-in-law

My mother-in-law enjoyed the crab too, so I felt I had chosen well that day, haha. If you love crab soup, I think it is worth visiting at least once.

We spent a leisurely time together, touring Independence Hall of Korea and eating delicious crab soup and soy-marinated crab. Add Gakwonsa Temple, and it makes such a lovely day-date itinerary. Talking about history with my mother-in-law and sharing good food made it feel like a special kind of date, different from the usual.

Most of all, the food was generous and the crab soup broth was refreshing, so I was satisfied. If you are looking for somewhere to eat after visiting Independence Hall of Korea, head to Yuryang-dong and enjoy crab soup or soy-marinated crab. Now, off to Gakwonsa Temple for our next stop~!
