C-curl bob perm at CHOP Hair, a Cheonan hair salon

Back when I only had long, straight hair, I suddenly got a hippie perm—and then a tassel perm right after.

I always had long hair, but for whatever reason I suddenly chopped it into a bob in May. Ladies in our 30s, we just cannot resist Kim Na-young's tassel cut, right? Hahaha. This was my tassel-perm hair from May.

Then I patiently grew it out and finally got my hair done at CHOP Hair in Sinbu-dong. Before a visit, I am the type who saves screenshots of the style I want and gets a rough idea of what treatment I will have, haha.

If you are a Cheonan local, you will know it: the Mom's Touch building beside Moon Tower :) In winter, you buy dumplings on the first floor; in spring, you get Botox at the dermatology clinic; before the summer monsoon, you go to the salon for straightening. That is the four-season rule, right? :)

A spacious third-floor interior that never felt cramped

I tend to book only places with parking, so parking was of course a plus—but I also live in Sinbu-dong, so it was easy to get to. And I liked that it was not on the first floor. I am a seriously introverted person who really, really hates making eye contact with passersby while getting my hair done... haha.

I visited with an 11 a.m. weekday appointment! The clean, wonderfully atmospheric interior and roomy space did not feel visually stifling at all~~~! They confirmed my booking and personally helped me put away my bag and get settled into a gown right away :) So sweet.

My hair condition and consultation before the treatment

My diligently grown-out tassel—just a tassel now. Because my hair is naturally slightly wavy, the grown-out section showed some curl. The lower part was straightened with a tassel perm, and here I was wanting a C-curl perm on top of thatㅠ.ㅠ

After seeing my reference style, they said they would still curl it strongly. The upbeat pre-treatment consultation put me in a good mood, so let us staaart.

A treatment that was comfortable from the shampoo onward

When I got shampooed, I thought the chair was incredibly comfortable, haha. My legs could stretch out, so it felt like I was simply lying down comfortably for a shampoo? Those Ayunche products that anyone serious about hair knows—they used products suited to my hair's level of damage. Getting a perm does not automatically mean damaged hair anymore!!

The order of root straightening and the C-curl perm

Keeping the length, they gave it a light cut; tamed the grown-out waves with root straightening; gave my fringe volume straightening; and made the ends into a strong C-curl perm. The total treatment time was set at 3 hours!!

Taming the waves first

I am someone who gets straightening once a year, always. They straightened my roots first, checked their condition, and gave them focused care. We can all agree that doing straightening and a perm together always takes twice as longㅠ.ㅠ I think the stylists work so hard.

Creating a strong C-curl with a heat perm

For the heat perm, you cannot lower your head and need to remain in a fixed position for about 20 minutes? Before starting, they explained the process and asked whether I needed to use the restroom :) One of the pleasures of going to a salon is reading a whole book, so it made for a lovely day.

Because I wanted a strong C-curl, they used large rollers suited to the curl. My hair received so, so much careful attention, then came the neutralizing step to finish~!! Once the curl had formed sufficiently, they neutralized it to set the perm securely.

The neutralizing involved one more step during shampooing, and they personally finished with a scalp massage. It felt amazingly refreshing—like the day's fatigue had completely melted away.

Defined C-curls and natural side bangs

The curls look defined, while the natural side bangs create a soft impression. Lately, every time I styled my hair I had no idea what to do; I kept wondering whether to wear my fringe down, and I was in a total face slump that only made me annoyed. But after trying a C-curl perm, I think the added volume makes my hair look softer and more feminine, so I think I made the right choice~!
