Cheonan chicken stew with two pots of barley tea: Sottture Dakdoritang
In short
Sottture Dakdoritang is a Korean restaurant on Seobu 19-gil in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, specializing in dakdoritang (braised chicken stew). Two diners ordered dakhanmaritang (whole chicken hot pot), which arrived with a chicken-shaped egg garnish on the lid, added a rolled omelet and flat dumplings, and finished with fried rice in the pot. The barley tea served instead of bottled water was good enough that the two of them emptied two full pots, making Sottture a full course rather than a single stew.

When you're eating dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew), where do you draw the line? Just the chicken and done? Nope. Sides and done? Nope, nope. If you haven't scraped the pot clean with fried rice at the end, the meal isn't over, haha.

This time we went to Sottture in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan. What we ordered that day: dakhanmaritang (whole chicken hot pot) + rolled omelet + flat dumplings + fried rice! The two of us ate it like a proper course, haha.
Where is Sottture Dakdoritang, and what are its hours?

Inside Sottture: the dining room, self-serve side dish bar and menu
Sottture is located in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan. Walking inside, the tables were set up and

there was also a separate self-serve bar where you can help yourself to side dishes. Looking at the menu, besides dakdoritang there were also

good pairing dishes like rolled omelet and flat dumplings. We didn't even have to think about it — just ordered everything we wanted, haha.
First to arrive: rolled omelet and flat dumplings
The first thing to show up at the table was the rolled omelet and flat dumplings! Wait... the main dish hadn't even arrived yet and the table was already stacked, haha.

The rolled omelet came out thick, perfect for picking up piece by piece. When you spot a rolled omelet as a side at a dakdoritang place, it's hard to just walk past it, right? It was great for nibbling on while the main dish was cooking. And then the flat dumplings we ordered alongside it!

The flat dumplings came out golden brown, piled high on the plate. Just from the crispy look, your hand keeps reaching for more, haha. Honestly you could just order the dakhanmaritang alone, but ordering these sides on top made it feel like we'd laid out a proper spread before the main dish even arrived. But listen, folks... the main dish hadn't even shown up yet, haha.
The egg chicken on top of Sottture's dakhanmaritang
As we snacked on the sides while waiting, today's main finally arrived — dakhanmaritang!!

It came out loaded in a big pot, and the moment it hit the table it had real presence. And the first thing that caught my eye the second I saw the dakhanmaritang...

What is that chicken on top, haha. They'd shaped egg into a chicken! There was an actual, adorable little chicken sitting on top of the dakhanmaritang, so of course we had to take a photo before eating. This kind of tiny detail is just too cute...

Sottture cooks everything fresh to order, so even after the finished dakhanmaritang arrived, we could keep simmering it right at the table. The big pot was packed with chicken and various ingredients, so there was also the fun of fishing pieces out one by one.

While eating the sides we were thinking, "Did we order way too much?" — but once the main came out, we kept eating anyway. The human stomach is a mysterious thing, haha. A bite of rolled omelet, then a bite of dakhanmaritang,

and in between we'd grab a flat dumpling here and there, cycling through all three dishes. Even though it was just the two of us, the table was so full it genuinely felt like a proper night out, haha.
Finishing the pot with fried rice
Okay. We ate the rolled omelet. We ate the flat dumplings. We ate the dakhanmaritang too. So should we head home now? No way.

If you came here for dakdoritang, the fried rice at the end is still waiting, haha. We were already pretty full, but there was no way we were skipping this, so we ordered fried rice to finish it off. The fried rice went into the pot and round two of the meal began, haha. Just minutes earlier we'd been saying "ah, I'm so full~" and yet there we were, spoons back in hand. And the result?

Cleared. We really ate it down to the last grain, haha. Finishing the leftover pot from the dakhanmaritang with fried rice — that's when the meal finally, truly felt complete!
The surprise of the meal: Sottture's barley tea
And besides the food that day, there was something unexpectedly great that the two of us both loved — the barley tea, haha.

Mid-meal I suddenly went, "Wait, this water is good?" and wondered how anyone could call water tasty, only to realize it wasn't plain water at all — it was barley tea, haha. And sure enough, I noticed I kept sipping it nonstop. A glass with the dakhanmaritang, a glass with the rolled omelet, another glass with the fried rice... in the end, the two of us emptied two whole pots of barley tea that day, haha. Went out for dakhanmaritang and came home having thoroughly enjoyed the barley tea too — that's us.
If dakhanmaritang alone feels like it's not enough, add the rolled omelet and flat dumplings, and don't skip the fried rice at the end!
