Dunsan-dong café for castella salt bread: Frank Coffee Bar

In short

Frank Coffee Bar Daejeon Dunsan Branch is a British-inspired café in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. On a weekend morning, I had an iced Americano, castella salt bread, and a vanilla canelé; the lightly sweet cream-filled salt bread was the standout. Verdict: a lovely pick for an unhurried coffee-and-bread break.

Introduction to Frank Coffee Bar in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon

Dunsan-dong café recommendation Frank Coffee Bar

The international atmosphere at Frank Coffee Bar Dunsan Branch

Frank Coffee Bar Daejeon Dunsan Branch with a British-style atmosphere

Frank Coffee Bar, with its British-style interior, has an exotic feel and the dim, bar-like mood of a café 🤎 It is one of my favorite cafés for its international atmosphere—foreign visitors come here too. I had only visited the Doan branch before, but this time I went to the Dunsan branch, and everyone, this place is a real bakery gem. I’ll share my completely honest review, from the bread to the drinks.

Inside

Dimly lit interior of Frank Coffee Bar

Here is the interior of Frank Coffee Bar, a café in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon. The Doan branch was dim like this too, so perhaps every branch has this kind of low-lit feel. Frank Coffee Bar’s interior is seriously pretty and cool... ☕️ It is the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel like you should order an espresso, haha. There were even foreign customers that day, which somehow made the international vibe feel even stronger.

British-style café interior

I had come here for takeout before, and the interior has changed a little since then?? There are so many more kinds of bread too!! The smell of bread hit me the moment I walked in...

Bakery display at Frank Coffee Bar
Salt bread and baked treats

There was such a wide variety of bakery items, from salt bread and baked sweets to egg tarts. You can also reserve salt bread and baked sweets for pickup through Naver. There were so many baked treats I love—canelés, financiers, and madeleines—that it was hard to chooseㅠ

Espresso and lucky draw event information

The coffee is excellent enough that they even sell espresso! There is also a lucky draw event. There were gift vouchers too—I wanted to win one, haha.

Iced Americano and bakery items

Vanilla canelé and castella salt bread

Just looking at them, it would be hard for them not to taste good... I really love a classic vanilla canelé. I think a canelé is the ultimate crisp-outside, soft-inside treat. The vanilla aroma was so nice, and of course it tasted great too. The canelé was delicious exactly as I expected~

Vanilla canelé dessert
Castella salt bread

I ate it so quickly I barely realized how good it was, haha... Everyone, this castella salt bread is seriously delicious. The salt bread is crisp yet soft, and the cream inside is tasty without being overly sweet. If you see it, I recommend picking one up without hesitation. I heard it can sell out if you arrive late.

Castella salt bread and iced Americano

The coffee beans leaned nutty. The iced Americano was a perfect match for the bread ~.~ The bread-and-coffee combination was just so delicious... And then there was the apple mint tea...

Apple mint tea drink

Add more water to the apple mint tea

The apple mint tea surprised me at first because it tasted like toothpaste. I am a mint-choco fan who even considers Baskin-Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip my favorite flavor, but this apple mint tea was not easy for me either. The mint flavor is much stronger than the apple, so keep that in mind.

Here is my handy tip for enjoying the apple mint tea: everyone, make sure to add more water!!! I was amazed at how it became delicious in an instant. You get more to drink and it tastes better too—two birds with one stone ^*^

If you are looking for a relaxed morning coffee and bread stop, this is a café I definitely recommend. Frank Coffee Bar has a wonderful international atmosphere and such a cool interior! With croffles, bread, baked sweets, and espresso, there are plenty of menu options to enjoy choosing from too. I really, really highly recommend the castella salt bread.
