Yesan Market chicken stir-fry to go with quail eggs: Sijang
In short
Sijang Dakbokkeum is a shishito pepper chicken stir-fry (kkwari gochu dakbokkeum) restaurant at stall 174 in Yesan Sangseol Market, Yesan, Chungnam. On an early Friday evening, the order was boneless chicken with quail eggs and Vienna sausages added, packed up to eat at home, where the well-seasoned boneless chicken and shishito peppers made an ideal side dish with rice. If you want to eat comfortably at home without picking around bones, order the boneless version at Sijang Dakbokkeum.

Last Friday I went with my boyfriend to Yesan, Chungcheongnam-do, my hometown! On the way to visit the countryside, let me write up my review of taking out shishito pepper dakbokkeum (chicken stir-fry) from Sijang Dakbokkeum, a Yesan Market favorite.
This was the one thing I had my eye on!! I'd been curious about it since before we headed down to the countryside haha. It's a place I missed on my last visit to Yesan Market, so the disappointment from that only made me look forward to it more.

Sijang Dakbokkeum in Yesan Sangseol Market on an early Friday evening
Arrived at Yesan Sangseol Market! Last time I came it was a weekend and it was absolutely packed, but on an early Friday evening there weren't nearly as many people, which made things much easier.

The signature dish at Sijang Dakbokkeum is the shishito pepper chicken stir-fry! It suits the whole market-food atmosphere of Yesan Market perfectly. The one and only market chicken place in the country, and the visuals are top notch too haha.

Eat at the shop or take it to the market plaza?
The Sijang Dakbokkeum shop looks like this, and there's seating right outside too so you can eat there. The staff were really kind about explaining everything ^^ There were two young guys working, and both were friendly.
You can also take Sijang Dakbokkeum out and eat it at the market plaza. The weather's gotten much cooler and pleasant these days, so eating out at the plaza would be really nice too!

Ordering boneless chicken with quail eggs and Vienna sausages
For stir-fried chicken dishes, I prefer easy-to-eat boneless chicken over bone-in, so I ordered boneless. Since I was planning to bring it home to eat, boneless — no need to pick out bones, just dig in right away — was way more convenient. I also added quail eggs and Vienna sausages.

Deliciously spicy shishito pepper dakbokkeum~ Rice, water, drinks and alcohol are all sold at the market plaza. If you leave a Naver receipt review you can get an apple-ade lol. Yesan really is all about apples 🍎

Not long after ordering, Sijang Dakbokkeum's shishito pepper chicken stir-fry came out ✨ Plenty of shishito peppers piled on top of the chicken. The seasoning was so well soaked into the chicken that just looking at it made me think of rice.

The portion is really generous too! Even without adding extra shishito peppers, it felt plenty by my standards.
Straight home we go!! The smell was insane, I kept sniffing at it lol.

How the boneless shishito pepper chicken tasted at home
One bite in, the seasoning had soaked so well into the chicken that it was salty and packed with savory depth.

The chicken was tender to chew, so I was glad I'd ordered boneless. Best of all, the shishito peppers scattered throughout made the whole dish taste so much richer than chicken alone. That fragrant, distinctive shishito pepper flavor blended with the sauce and balanced out the plain richness of the chicken — a great combo.

Are the quail egg and Vienna sausage add-ons worth it?
When quail eggs go into dakbokkeum, the seasoning soaks right in, making them great as a side dish with rice. Just as expected, they went really well with the dakbokkeum sauce. Bite-sized and easy to eat, and eating the seasoned quail eggs with rice was a quietly excellent treat.
Adding Vienna sausages to dakbokkeum felt like a slightly unusual combo, but once I actually tried it, it worked better than expected. The plump, bouncy sausages soaked up the dakbokkeum sauce and came out salty with great savory depth. With sausage mixed in among the chicken and quail eggs, there was also the fun of picking and choosing what to eat.

Why Sijang Dakbokkeum travels well as takeout
I felt that Sijang Dakbokkeum isn't just for eating on the spot — it's also a solid menu to take out and eat at a lodging or at home. If you're planning to eat comfortably at home like I did, I'd recommend going boneless. Both my boyfriend and I were satisfied >_<

If you're visiting Yesan Sangseol Market like I did and looking for a takeout menu, I'd recommend loading up Sijang Dakbokkeum's shishito pepper chicken stir-fry with extra toppings and enjoying it to the fullest. The portion was so generous that even several people eating together would have plenty.
If you're visiting Yesan Market and looking for a chicken dish, Sijang Dakbokkeum's shishito pepper dakbokkeum is well worth trying. Next time I visit Yesan Market again, I'd like to try more market food and also take out Sijang Dakbokkeum once more.
