In short

Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, serving pork belly and kimchi stew. A two-person cauldron kimchi stew with rolled omelet came with freshly cooked pot rice and scorched rice. Verdict: a warming, deeply satisfying meal for a proper bowl of rice and stew.

Looking for a steaming bowl of kimchi stew in Bongmyeong-dong?

Jeonju House was a spot I kept seeing whenever I looked for good kimchi stew around Yuseong. It serves both pork belly and kimchi stew, so it works for dinner or simply for a hearty meal, and apparently it gets busy at lunch too. Let me tell you about the delicious meal I had!

The restaurant was larger than I expected, with the comfortable feel of a classic Korean restaurant!! Plenty of people come for pork belly, and it seemed popular with families and larger groups too. On the day we went, there were so many international travelers as well!!! Kimchijjigae~

Ordering cauldron kimchi stew and rolled omelet

The whole purpose of today's visit was steaming kimchi stew. No hesitation: cauldron kimchi stew for two!!! And an indispensable side dish—what goes with kimchi stew? Rolled. Omelet. So of course we ordered the rolled omelet too.

The basic table setting and self-service corner

Once we ordered, the basic table setting arrived first. Side dishes that go nicely with kimchi stew or meat quickly made the table feel abundant. Before the mains even came out, I was nibbling on this and that—especially the seasoned chives. Seriously, who made that seasoning? It was so good.

There is also a self-service corner, so if you run short on the basic side dishes, you can bring back as much as you need. It is so nice not having to ask the staff every single time.

Kimchi stew loaded with aged kimchi and meat

This kimchi stew is made with aged kimchi. The pot came out generously filled with aged kimchi and meat. Just looking at the photo makes me drool~~~~~~~~

At most kimchi stew restaurants, you get a bowl of rice, but Jeonju House served pot rice alongside it. That distinctive warmth of freshly cooked pot rice made it perfect with the kimchi stew.

Snip up the whole piece of aged kimchi, then once it starts bubbling away, have it with rice. There is something fun about letting it simmer right at the table, and as the broth gets deeper and richer, mix that pot rice right into it.

Then after scooping out the rice and diligently eating it with the kimchi stew, finish with nurungji (crispy scorched rice). It keeps the whole meal warm from start to finish, which made this place really satisfying.

A hearty combination with a giant rolled omelet

A warm spoonful of rice topped with kimchi and a little broth—Koreans simply cannot resist a menu like this!! And then, the rolled. omelet. to enjoy alongside it.

Not just any rolled omelet, either: a giant one. How many eggs would it take to make one like that? Ten? It must take a whole lot, right?

Kimchi stew + pot rice + rolled omelet is more than enough for a hearty meal, isn't it!! This place was genuinely so delicious. The meat came in such big chunks too, so you can snip it up with scissors and eat it—ahhh.

And when you take a spoonful of the broth like this, it goes right from your belly button: KAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!~~~~~~

Lots of people come here for pork belly too, but personally, I really loved the neat combination of kimchi stew, rolled omelet, and pot rice. It is the kind of place I think I will remember on a day when I want a proper meal of rice with hot stew!

After we ate, I also loved taking a walk through the nearby Gyeryong Spatel garden, so this gets a pass from me. It was absolutely delicious. Highly, highly recommended.
