Yuseong Korean restaurant for a hearty workday lunch: Jeonju House
In short
Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, serving galbi kimchi jjigae and pot rice. We ordered the 2-person cast-iron-pot galbi kimchi jjigae for 30,000 won and an egg roll for 10,000 won for a weekday lunch. Verdict: Jeonju House is a filling pick for an office-worker lunch.

Today, I had lunch at Jeonju House, a great spot in Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon for pot rice and galbi kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew with beef short ribs). The meat is delicious, of course, but the galbi kimchi jjigae served with a huge pot of rice and the giant egg roll are seriously good too, so I definitely recommend dropping by for lunch. Even when I arrived around 11:30 on a weekday, more than half the seats were taken—and after noon, it was absolutely bustling. A genuine neighborhood favorite, confirmed.
Jeonju House parking and accessibility
There is no dedicated parking lot, so you will need to park on the main road around the building. It is beside Gyeryong Spatel near Yuseong Oncheon Station, though, so it is fairly easy to get to.
How is the dining room divided?

The interior is divided into a left and right side. One side had more of a meat-grilling atmosphere, while the other felt geared toward stew meals.
Ordering cast-iron-pot galbi kimchi jjigae and egg roll

The menu runs from its signature fresh pork belly on a cast-iron lid to cast-iron-pot galbi kimchi jjigae and kimchi hot pot. Since there were two of us, we ordered the cast-iron-pot galbi kimchi jjigae and an egg roll.

From side dishes to pot rice

One interesting thing: they served water in single-use cups like the kind you might get on an airplane. If you ask for more water, they bring over a bottle for you to pour yourself.

The banchan (Korean side dishes) included salty seasoned bean sprouts, seasoned chives, seasoned seaweed stems, dongchimi (water kimchi), and salad.

As you would expect from a Bongmyeong-dong favorite, every side dish was tasty and fresh. The seasoned bean sprouts in particular were really delicious.

Since this is the kind of Bongmyeong-dong lunch place where speed matters for office workers, the main galbi kimchi jjigae and pot rice arrived quickly. The pot of rice was seriously big, so it already looked wonderfully filling.

First, pour in hot water to make fragrant nurungji (toasted rice crust).

How long should you boil the galbi kimchi jjigae?
The main cast-iron-pot galbi kimchi jjigae arrives fully cooked, so you only need to let it boil for about 1–2 minutes.

It comes cooked already, but the longer it boils, the richer the broth gets—and the better it tastes.

It was piled high with big pieces of meat, and it was so good. The portion was also really generous—enough to leave even an adult man completely full.

There were so many onggi (traditional Korean earthenware jars) outside, and the kimchi tasted incredible too.

The tofu is at the self-service bar, so just bring back as much as you want.

The genuinely huge egg roll and the finish
The egg roll was quite substantial too. It might look small in the photos, but it is really huge in person.

As we were nearly done, we added ramyeon noodles and let them cook in the stew too.

After finishing every last bit of the nurungji too, we headed out feeling happy.
Why I recommend it for an office-worker lunch
- The pot rice portion is large
- The egg roll is genuinely huge
- There is plenty of meat
- There was not really anything I would not recommend
