Gongdeok Korean beef restaurant with Pyongyang naengmyeon: Moyeon Mapo
In short
Moyeon Mapo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) dining restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, where there is no open hall and every seat is a private room. For a weekday lunch for two, we ordered the charcoal-grilled marinated hanwoo pot rice set (25,000 won per person) and 100% pure buckwheat Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle soup), and staff grilled the beef at the table while the pot rice arrived topped with braised abalone, finishing with nurungji (scorched rice). If you want a quiet Gongdeok spot where you can actually hold a conversation over Korean beef, Moyeon Mapo fits.

Moyeon is a hanwoo (Korean beef) dining restaurant in Mapo where you can enjoy aged Korean beef, freshly cooked pot rice, and 100% pure buckwheat pyongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle soup) together.
I'd been here before for a company dinner, and since every seat is a separate private room, it was a great spot for a quiet conversation over a company dinner or business meal.

This time I came for lunch with my husband and ordered the charcoal-grilled hanwoo pot rice set along with pyongyang naengmyeon.

The hanwoo pot rice set in particular was a substantial spread — from the meat to the pot rice and side dishes — and it was all delicious. Let me walk you through the lunch menu, the room atmosphere, the location, and parking at Moyeon Mapo.
Where is Moyeon Mapo, and where do you park?
Moyeon Mapo is about a 3–5 minute walk from Exit 1 of Mapo Station. It's also easy to reach from Gongdeok, and if you're driving, valet parking is available (valet at the back entrance, ₩3,000).

Lunchtime tends to get busy, so I'd recommend booking ahead (reservations available through Catch Table).
Every seat is a private room — good for small gatherings
Moyeon Mapo has no open dining hall — every seat is an independent private room. The rooms come in various sizes, so groups can dine comfortably without worrying about nearby tables, which made conversation easy.

On top of that, staff grill the meat for you, which makes it a great fit for company dinners, client meals, or family gatherings where you want to focus on the food and conversation.

What the 25,000-won hanwoo charcoal-grill lunch set includes
The charcoal-grilled hanwoo pot rice lunch set at Moyeon Mapo was ₩25,000 per person.

Centered on charcoal-grilled marinated beef and pot rice, the set came with braised abalone, doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), and several side dishes — a really full spread.

Moyeon says they select their hanwoo and wet-age it for 500 hours.

Staff grilled it right at the table, and the marinade wasn't too sweet or strong — with a subtle charcoal aroma that made it delicious.

Even though it's marinated beef, the marinade flavor didn't overpower the meat, so it paired well with the pot rice too.

Wrapping the meat in lettuce, cabbage, and dried kelp made it even tastier.

The meat was tender and paired well with the chives, so the main charcoal-grilled beef itself was already satisfying.

Abalone pot rice, nurungji and pure buckwheat Pyongyang naengmyeon
The pot rice at Moyeon Mapo is made with Goldenqueen No. 3 rice, cooked fresh to order. The pot rice was actually a highlight for me this meal — when I opened the lid, the glossy sheen of freshly cooked rice was the first thing I saw.

The rice itself was tasty, but topping it with the braised abalone that came alongside was especially good.

Between pairing a piece of the charcoal-grilled beef with pot rice and topping it with braised abalone, the meal felt much more filling than just eating the meat alone.
We poured water over the leftover rice to finish with nurungji (scorched rice), which wrapped the meal up nicely.

The pyongyang naengmyeon we ordered alongside is made with 100% pure buckwheat noodles in a hanwoo-based broth.

The clean, plain flavor typical of buckwheat noodles, paired with a mild, non-spicy broth, made it a great follow-up after the charcoal-grilled beef.

Seeing that they clearly put care into the pot rice and naengmyeon and not just the meat, all served neatly in fine brassware, I got the sense that this restaurant thinks through the whole meal carefully.
Is Moyeon Mapo worth it for a Gongdeok lunch meeting?
Revisiting Moyeon Mapo for lunch this time, both the food and the space were satisfying.

Beyond the charcoal-grilled hanwoo, the freshly cooked pot rice, braised abalone, and naengmyeon rounded out a really satisfying full meal.

In particular, I thought the hanwoo charcoal-grilled pot rice set was quite a good deal for a lunch menu, given this much for ₩25,000.

If you're looking for a Gongdeok Korean BBQ restaurant with quiet private rooms for a group meal, I'd recommend Moyeon Mapo.
