A truly satisfying lunch at Moyeon in Mapo, a Seoul favorite

Where is Moyeon Mapo, and how far is it from Mapo Station?
It's a well-known spot near Mapo Station Exit 1, already famous as one of Mapo's top hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurants.

It's also been selected as a Blue Ribbon restaurant several years running. I'd booked for 11:40 but was about 10 minutes late due to traffic, so the restaurant called me. Luckily I was almost there, but with so many people waiting outside, I felt really bad for not making my reservation time...

All private rooms: why Moyeon Mapo suits group meals and work dinners
Every seat at Moyeon is in a private room, making it perfect for group gatherings, family meals, or company dinners. Passing by and glimpsing through the door gaps, I saw all kinds of guests — church groups, family gatherings, you name it.

We were in Room 24, and staff come to take your order when you press the call button. The smallest room seems to seat 4, and with so many people waiting and rooms all full, I felt like a two-person reservation might be a bit of a loss for the restaurant, haha.

When we arrived after booking, everything was already set up. The restaurant opens at 11:30, and it's fully booked with a waiting line just 20 minutes later... honestly, even getting a Catch Table lunch reservation wasn't easy.
Moyeon is a hanwoo dining restaurant that only serves quality Korean beef.
Coat hangers are provided on both sides of the room.

The naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) is made with 100% pure buckwheat noodles, and only the best ingredients are used for everything else. We wanted to try it too, but the lunch course was so generous we couldn't fit in the noodles — maybe next time we come for dinner!

What comes with the 25,000-won lunch special set?
The reason lunch is so busy here is that you can enjoy a hanwoo set meal at a reasonable price. Honestly, I didn't expect much given the price, but when the food arrived I found myself wondering how the restaurant could possibly make a profit — the quality of the set was that impressive. Since the lunch set is also available on Saturdays, I'd expect it to be even busier on weekends.

I kept eating the raw carrots, so I told my husband to eat the raw paprika instead... turns out he liked it more than expected.

To help digest all the delicious food, we also ordered a Zero Coke.

Seaweed was also provided to wrap around the abalone pot rice.

After ordering, the pot rice, meat, and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) came out quickly.

The meat was great quality, and it was quickly grilled over charcoal for us.

They removed the flame and served it in a bowl, which made it really easy to eat. Given the quality and price, it's no wonder Moyeon seems to be popular for lunch gatherings.

How to mix the abalone butter soy sauce pot rice
The pot rice includes ginkgo nuts, sweet potato, mushrooms, and asparagus.

They also give you a piece of butter — scoop out some rice, add the abalone preserve, soy sauce, and butter, mix it all together, and voilà, butter abalone soy sauce rice! One bite and it's a thumbs up. I only used about two-thirds of the butter when mixing, and it was perfect — not greasy at all!

Abalone rice, charcoal-grilled seasoned meat, and all kinds of side dishes made for a truly generous lunch.

My husband loved it so much he said he wants to bring his team here for their next lunch outing! Since Moyeon's lunch reservations fill up fast, book early or you won't get in.

The doenjang guk (soybean paste soup) was also really delicious :)

There's also cabbage for wraps and various vegetables provided, so it's a great meat restaurant for getting your nutrients too. And above all, the staff were incredibly kind and the service was excellent.

They also sell premium hanwoo gift sets, so I imagine many satisfied customers considered them for Chuseok gifts :)
I'd highly recommend Moyeon Mapo as a top spot for beef and set meals in Mapo and Gongdeok, Seoul.
