Uijeongbu Station galbi restaurant, Friday date night: Manpo Galbi

Today I'm bringing you a review of "Manpo Galbi," a must-visit spot near Uijeongbu Station.

What is Manpo Galbi Uijeongbu Main Branch like inside?

Manpo Galbi has a spacious, comfortable dining room. There are plenty of tables, making it a great spot near Uijeongbu Station for family visits too. On the Friday evening I went, there was a real mix of visitors — dates, family gatherings, work dinners. Bottom line: my satisfaction was through the roof. From the quality of the meat to the banchan (side dishes), the service, and the menu lineup — it was just flawless.

Menu and order at Manpo Galbi: the naengmyeon is free

True to its name, Manpo Galbi sells a wide variety of galbi (short rib) dishes. What stuck with me was just how many galbi options there were. And by the way — the naengmyeon (cold noodles) is FREE!!!

Banchan at Manpo Galbi that even includes yukhoe (raw beef)

Isn't it amazing how many banchan (side dishes) come out here? Starting with japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), lettuce wraps, and mu-saengchae (radish salad), they even bring out yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare). The side dish lineup is generous, and the ingredients were so fresh it was genuinely delicious. There's also a variety of sauces and kimchi, by the way.

How to grill charcoal marinated galbi without burning it

First, 2 servings of galbi came out. It had been ages since I'd had charcoal-grilled galbi, and I could tell right away the marinade had soaked in well, which made me happy. Fair warning: marinated galbi burns easily, so once the meat is partly cooked, I recommend moving it toward the edge of the grill!!!! Since it had been so long since I'd had galbi, I tried to cook it fast by leaving it in the middle, and ended up losing a few precious pieces..🥹

Once I actually tasted it, the sweet marinade made it clear this would be easy for kids and adults alike to enjoy. It had a clean, mild flavor and texture with no gamey smell, and not much fat, so it was even tastier. There were plenty of lettuce wraps too, along with a variety of side dishes, so I got to enjoy the meat in lots of different combinations.

Is the free bibim naengmyeon any good?

Best of all, the naengmyeon at Manpo Galbi is free. I've never seen such a generous Korean BBQ restaurant. You can choose between mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) — I went with bibim!!

Free, but the flavor wasn't cheap at all. The noodles were chewy and packed with savory depth, so I couldn't stop eating them. As someone who always orders naengmyeon at a Korean BBQ restaurant, getting noodles this good and this well-made for free felt like a real deal.

Why we ordered extra galbi we hadn't planned on

So, totally unplanned, we ended up ordering more galbi. …Can you tell how much we loved it? Personally, my favorite bite was wrapping lettuce with meat and kimchi together. And pairing that with the naengmyeon — no need to say more. My boyfriend posted a story showing off the food, and a friend of his immediately replied that this was a well-known spot. So I guess everyone already knows about it.

Finishing the meal with doenjang sulbap (rice in soybean stew)

In the end, we thoroughly polished off a doenjang sulbap (rice cooked in doenjang stew) too. It was loaded with tofu, meat, and other ingredients, and the deep, rich broth was perfect. With such a great menu lineup and generous basic offerings all around, this place was satisfying in every way.

As a Uijeongbu local, I've been to plenty of Korean BBQ restaurants, but the ones that are both satisfying and memorable are pretty limited. Even so, Manpo Galbi delivered high satisfaction across the board. Between the charcoal-grilled meat and the wide variety of tasty side dishes, I ended up eating way more than I meant to… If you're looking for a great restaurant or Korean BBQ spot near Uijeongbu Station, I highly recommend Manpo Galbi.
