Gyodong sashimi shop in Sokcho with a ₩60,000 set for four: Hoega
In short
Hoega is a sashimi takeout restaurant in a residential stretch of Gyodong, Sokcho. A mixed sashimi platter (small) plus one serving of mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) came to 60,000 won ordered ahead by phone, and the package included ssam lettuce wraps, chojang (sweet chili sauce), aged kimchi, sushi rice and packaged seaweed sheets, so nothing extra had to be bought near the accommodation. With thick-cut slices and abalone on the mulhoe, Hoega made a satisfying room dinner for a family of four.

Craving sashimi on a Sokcho trip but worried about tourist-area prices? Here's my review of Hoega, where I packed a generous mixed sashimi and mulhoe for ₩60,000 total and ate it back at the room.
Why Hoega in Gyodong for sashimi takeout in Sokcho
Once in Sokcho, I knew I had to have a plate of sashimi for dinner. But there's always that little worry when eating sashimi in a tourist area: 'what if it's expensive but the portion is small?' 😂
This time especially, I wanted to eat comfortably at the accommodation rather than at a restaurant, so I looked into Sokcho sashimi takeout spots. That's how I found Hoega in Gyodong, Sokcho — not by the crowded beach or in the middle of the market, but tucked into a residential neighborhood.
Bottom line first: I'm glad I got takeout here! From the thickness of the sashimi to the portion size and overall composition, it felt properly generous without any inflated pricing.

It's tucked inside a residential area in Gyodong, Sokcho, but it's still an easy drive from major spots like Sokcho Jungang Market, Cheongcho Lake, and Abai Village. For anyone like us looking for a Sokcho sashimi takeout place to eat back at the accommodation, it fits nicely into a travel route. We picked ours up on the way back to our lodging from Sokcho Jungang Market :)
Parking is available in a line in front of the K-Mart right by the restaurant, or in the space beside the building, and it's free.
How to pre-order by phone and pick up at Hoega
We called ahead to reserve before visiting. Thanks to that, our order was already packed by the time we arrived, so we could just grab it and go without waiting.

The shop had that comfortable, unpretentious vibe of a sashimi place that's been running in the neighborhood for a long time.

Looking at the menu, there was quite a variety beyond mixed sashimi — flounder sekkoshi (thin-sliced with bones), mulhoe, sashimi rice bowl, sashimi noodles, abalone, and more. Hoega is run by a couple with 30 years of experience, and the mixed sashimi lineup changes with the season's catch; the fish used in the mulhoe and rice bowls is apparently caught live right when you order.

What the 60,000 won set includes: mixed sashimi plus one mulhoe
What we packed was a mixed sashimi (small) plus one serving of mulhoe, ₩60,000 total.

Back at the accommodation, unpacking it one by one... wait, this is way more generous than I expected? Haha. The mixed sashimi alone had the plate completely full.

Apparently this is a place that gives you plenty of actual sashimi instead of padding the order with a bunch of side dishes for show, and seeing it in person, I got exactly what that meant.
How thick are Hoega's slices, and which fish?
What I liked most was the thickness! It wasn't sliced thin just to look like more volume — each piece was cut noticeably thick. It included belly and fin cuts too, so we got to enjoy different textures depending on the part.

Rather than feeling fatty, it had a clean, light taste that kept me reaching for more. It was great just dipped in chojang (vinegared chili sauce), and wrapping a piece in perilla leaf with ssamjang and minced garlic on top... this must be why people eat sashimi when they come to Sokcho. 😂
Hoega's mulhoe for one, topped with abalone
And unexpectedly, the mulhoe had a big presence.

I figured 'one serving' would be light, but it came in a big container packed with plenty of fish and vegetables.

There was even a big chunk of abalone on top, so it looked quite generous.
Pour in the broth and mix it well, and you've got a sweet-and-tangy, refreshing mulhoe!
Eating sashimi non-stop can get a little heavy after a while, so taking a bite of mulhoe in between was the perfect combination.
Which side dishes come in the takeout package?
What surprised me was the takeout composition. Our table at the accommodation was small, so I moved things around myself to take photos, but even just what came included by default was really varied.
- Lettuce wraps
- Minced garlic, chili
- Ssamjang / soy sauce / chojang
- Aged kimchi
- Sushi rice
- Dried seaweed sheets
- Pickled shallots / pickled ginger
- Sliced garlic
- Seasoned dried radish
- Wasabi / radish sprouts
Thanks to all that, we didn't need to shop for anything extra on the trip or bring our own ssamjang, chojang, or seaweed — we could just set the table with exactly what we picked up.

Putting a piece of sashimi on the sushi rice, wrapping it in aged kimchi, or making a perilla leaf wrap — even the same sashimi felt different to eat each way.
Was Hoega's takeout enough for a family of four?
When picking a place while traveling in a tourist area, what's more disappointing than the price being high is that 'is this really what I paid for' moment. In that respect, Hoega was quite satisfying.

Mixed sashimi (small) + one serving of mulhoe, ₩60,000 total.

With plenty of thick sashimi, a generous mulhoe, and every side dish covered, it was a great setup for a family of four to eat comfortably back at the room. Best of all, we didn't have to scramble to pick things out in the middle of a crowded market or beach — ordering ahead by phone and just picking it up was so convenient.

If you're planning to bring sashimi back to your room on a Sokcho trip, especially if you're looking for a Sokcho sashimi takeout place without inflated prices, give Hoega a check.

Next time we're in Sokcho and want sashimi at our accommodation, I think we'll get takeout from here again. :)
