I only go to the good spots! Today's place is one I visited once and just couldn't stop thinking about, so I went back. It's Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Station Branch, famous as a Gwanggyo lamb rib restaurant. I remembered how good the chilled lamb ribs were last time, so this time I headed straight back without even thinking twice.

This time I ordered the same Special mixed set as before, plus tomato egg soup and quobao rou, and paired everything with yeontae baijiu and Harbin beer for a full-on Chinese food feast! Here's my report from my "go-to again" spot :)

How long is the walk from Sanghyeon Station?

Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Station Branch was really close to Exit 2 of Sanghyeon Station. I walked there on a weekend evening for a drink~ Out the exit, walk straight for about 50m, turn left, and keep going — it's at the very back of the building on the first floor, so it's easy to find and super accessible!

Right as you enter the building, there's a big banner reading "Premium chilled lamb specialty restaurant" — and my expectations for the meat instantly went up! Lamb can be a bit polarizing because of its distinctive smell, so seeing that phrase gave me confidence.

Partitioned seats built for group dinners

Hwaro Yangmi sits toward the back of the first floor, so once you're inside the building the entrance is easy to spot. From the entrance alone, it already felt like a proper Gwanggyo lamb specialty restaurant!

Inside, the space was spacious with generous gaps between tables — perfect for gatherings or company dinners. The tables all had partitions too, so you get a nice sense of privacy, and there was a big group table as well — I'd totally recommend it if you're looking for a group dinner spot near Sanghyeon Station. We came on a Friday evening, and there were already one or two groups there ahead of us; as time went on, the tables filled up fast. It really lived up to its reputation as a Gwanggyo lamb rib restaurant.

Hwaro Yangmi's menu: lamb, Chinese dishes and Chinese liquor

True to being a lamb specialty restaurant, Hwaro Yangmi's menu was quite varied. From raw lamb skewers to lamb loin, shoulder rack, and French rack, there's a good lineup of clean-tasting raw lamb cuts. From beginner-friendly cuts to ones with a chewier texture and deeper flavor, you can pick and choose to suit your taste.

Beyond lamb, there's also a good variety of Chinese dishes — things like tomato egg soup and quobao rou, plus side dishes that pair well with the lamb, so it's a great place to enjoy meat and drinking snacks together.

Hwaro Yangmi also has a wide range of Chinese liquors, plus beer and soju. We ordered a set of my favorite — yeontae baijiu and Harbin beer. With lamb, Chinese dishes, and Chinese liquor all in one place, it's a Gwanggyo lamb rib restaurant with a really wide menu selection.

What comes in the 53,000-won Special Set for Two

We ordered the Special Set for Two again this time. It comes with shoulder rack, lamb loin, and seasoned lamb ribs together, so you get to try several cuts at once — nice.

Basic side dishes served with the Special Set for Two

Even the basic side dishes were amazing — the seasoned cabbage was seriously delicious, pure honey-sweet flavor, and we got refills three times. We seriously stacked it up like a mountain. The wild garlic was great too, and the pickled garlic was oddly addictive — a perfect match with the meat!

The charcoal at Hwaro Yangmi was in really good condition too. It's been a while since I saw such a clean charcoal grill with bright red, high-heat coals!

Then the meat arrived — the Special Set for Two with shoulder rack, lamb loin, and seasoned lamb ribs, and at 490g the portion was generous and looked great too. Being freshly aged in a chilled aging room, the color was clear and the juices glistened.

One thing that stood out at Hwaro Yangmi was the chilled aging room. It's not just about trimming meat and serving it fresh — having a dedicated chilled aging space gave me the sense that they really put care into managing the lamb.

Since they use chilled, never-frozen lamb, the color looked noticeably fresh the moment it came out. The careful management in the chilled aging room also raised my expectations for the flavor.

A staff member grilled everything from start to finish for us, and honestly — it's such a luxury. At most barbecue restaurants you're busy grilling the whole time, but today we just sat back and ate without lifting a finger.

With the staff grilling from start to finish, they nailed the timing perfectly — from when to flip to when it was done. Watching the lamb turn golden brown with charcoal aroma wafting up was seriously mouth-watering.

Grilled to a perfect medium and cut up on the plate for us — a total heaven system where all you have to do is eat! Meat really is better left to the pros. The outside was golden and crisp, the inside juicy and tender — the moment you popped a piece in your mouth, the juices just burst out.

How does the lamb loin taste?

They grilled the lamb loin and shoulder rack first and plated it for us! The lamb loin had juices bursting out with the first bite — the kind of flavor that makes your eyes close involuntarily~

Tender, with the faint nutty fat aroma unique to young lamb rising softly, and juices gushing out the moment you bite in — I was genuinely surprised by how fresh it was. It was on a totally different level from the lamb skewers I'd had elsewhere.

Combine it all — wild garlic, seasoned cabbage, pickled garlic, wasabi, and the cumin dip for lamb skewers — and it's absolute perfection! Writing this is making me want to eat it all over again ㅠㅠ

A little wasabi on top adds a clean, sharp kick, and pairing it with the seasoned cabbage brings a tangy, crunchy note for yet another combination to enjoy.

Shoulder rack with Yantai baijiu and Harbin beer

The shoulder rack had a slightly firmer texture than the loin, with a deep, nutty meat aroma that intensified as you chewed. Grilled golden over the charcoal, the surface picked up a subtle smoky char, and the moment you bit in the juices spread through moist and rich — the appeal was in the crisp seared outside paired with the tender, juicy inside, making you reach for one piece after another!

Pairing it with a sip of yeontae baijiu, the nutty lamb flavor lingered gently in my mouth and the drink just kept going down easily!

Yeontae-maekju made by mixing baijiu with Harbin beer

We mixed yeontae baijiu with Harbin beer to make yeontae-maekju — the cool, smooth carbonation of the Harbin beer combined with the subtle, fragrant aroma of the baijiu made for a much deeper flavor than plain beer! Best of all, the carbonation made the baijiu go down smoothly, so alternating a bite of lamb with a sip really made the night fly by. A piece of golden charcoal-grilled shoulder rack with a sip of yeontae-maekju — perfect!!! Highly recommend it :)

The seasoned mini lamb ribs are a treat too

Last but not least, the seasoned mini lamb ribs were a real treat too. The moment they hit the charcoal, the sweet seasoning aroma mixed with the savory meat smell, and it was seriously mouth-watering.

The golden-grilled surface had the seasoning slightly caramelized onto it, adding a sweet-savory flavor with a hint of smoky charcoal that really brought out the flavor. Bite in and the outside is a bit chewy while the inside stays tender, with the seasoning soaked deep into the meat getting richer the more you chew.

Eating the seasoned lamb ribs by hand

The slightly charred bits especially had a deeper sweetness from the seasoning plus a smoky char that kept me picking at it! It was fun to eat with your hands too, and the sweet-savory seasoning with the nutty lamb made it a great match as a drinking snack.

It felt like a waste to only eat lamb, so we also ordered tomato egg soup and quobao rou. The tomato egg soup had tangy tomato broth loaded with soft, fluffy egg — one spoonful and your mouth felt refreshed! After eating meat, a hot spoonful of this tangy, soft broth was just right as a drinking accompaniment.

The quobao rou (sweet and sour pork) was crispy outside, chewy inside, coated in a tangy-sweet sauce — I kept reaching for more. Alternating between lamb and quobao rou totally changed up the flavor, which was great for resetting your palate between bites. This is what weekend evening happiness looks like. Lamb + quobao rou + yeontae baijiu + Harbin beer — this time I really got to enjoy a full Chinese food experience.

Watermelon bar and screw bar ice cream served for dessert

Dessert comes without asking

After eating our fill of lamb and Chinese dishes, they gave us each an ice cream for dessert. We went straight for the watermelon bar and screw bar without a second thought. The sweet, cool ice cream cleared our palates nicely after all that rich meat and drink! Getting even the dessert taken care of made for a happy way to end the meal.

Still worth it on a second visit

Hwaro Yangmi, which I loved so much I came back! This time, trying the tomato egg soup and quobao rou alongside the lamb ribs meant getting to properly enjoy the Chinese menu too, which made it even more satisfying. I especially loved the tender texture and rich juices of the chilled lamb and the subtle smoky char from the charcoal, and having staff grill everything for us meant we could just relax, chat, and eat.

The title of premium chilled lamb rib specialty restaurant isn't for nothing. If you want to enjoy Chinese dishes alongside your lamb, or have a proper drink with Chinese liquors like yeontae baijiu and Harbin beer, this is a place worth visiting at least once.

Premium chilled lamb rib specialty restaurant Hwaro Yangmi is perfect not just for lamb lovers like me, but for anyone looking for a Gwanggyo lamb rib restaurant or a group dinner spot near Sanghyeon Station! Highly recommend~

I'm already curious what I'll order next time at Hwaro Yangmi.
