Pork galbi restaurant near Naksan Beach in Yangyang: Yeoyejeong
In short
Yeoyejeong is a pork galbi (grilled short rib) restaurant in Yangyang, Gangwon, about 10 minutes by car from Naksan Beach and a short drive up a mountain road. After a day in the water, a family of three ordered two servings of marinated ribs and two of fresh ribs with rice and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), grilled over charcoal, and it was more than enough food. The fresh ribs at Yeoyejeong are mild and tender while the marinated ribs won over the child, so ordering both is the answer.

On the night we stayed at St. the Sweet Yangyang, the hotel right in front of Naksan Beach, I was craving pork galbi haha
After a full day of swimming, it's meat, no question!! Gotta refill the protein!! So we went to Yeoyejeong, a pork galbi place famous around Naksan Beach, about 10 minutes away by car.

Where is Yeoyejeong and is there parking?
Yeoyejeong is a pork galbi restaurant on Ssangsolbaegi-gil in Seo-myeon, Yangyang. We'd been to the more famous Itaewon Galbi in Yangyang before, but the waiting line's gotten even worse there^^;; So we gave up on that and looked for another pork galbi place nearby instead haha
You wind up a little bit into the mountains to get here haha, and that actually made it better!

Being up in the mountains, the air was clean, and the parking lot was nice and spacious! But looking around, most people seemed to be locals — lots of neighborhood folks were there.

There's a 'model restaurant' sign up haha, so I walked in with high expectations.

What we ordered at Yeoyejeong: 2 servings marinated ribs + 2 fresh ribs
At Yeoyejeong we ordered 2 servings of marinated ribs, 2 servings of fresh ribs, plus rice and doenjang jjigae. Looking at the menu, I got curious about the pot rice with meat lunch menu lol, but we came for dinner so...
I'd never had pork galbi as fresh, unseasoned ribs before! This place seemed special, so I was curious enough to order it.
They also sell pot rice. My son loves pot rice, but we were so hungry that day I worried it would take too long, so we just went with regular rice ㅠㅠ

Why Yeoyejeong works with kids: the lucky draw event
Right in the middle of Yeoyejeong there's a lucky draw event. We ordered and were looking around the place lolllll and my son... the moment he spotted something colorful, he sensed it was for him and started nagging me haha....
We posted a review and did one draw, got a little squishy toy. A meat restaurant with these small little events is so great — my son didn't get bored while waiting for the meat to cook! Nice.
The place looked big enough for group bookings too~~ That day there seemed to be a family gathering, with a big extended family eating there as well haha.
Side dishes, lettuce and the chive sauce
Lettuce and side dishes came out~~ cabbage salad, seasoned cucumbers, sautéed eggplant, baek-kimchi (white kimchi)! And they gave us a whole bundle of lettuce — did they grow it themselves? lolllllll Super fresh lettuce!!! So good.

And a sauce with chives in it! Eating the meat with this chive sauce was so good!!

Fresh ribs vs marinated ribs on the charcoal grill
Charcoal's in place~! Galbi really does taste best grilled over charcoal!

My first time trying fresh, unmarinated pork galbi~~ first time seeing the visual of ribs with no seasoning too haha
Can you see the color difference between fresh and marinated ribs? haha Fresh ribs look kind of like thinly sliced pork neck, but the taste is way milder and more tender! Apparently the protein inside gets tenderized by the salt, which makes it softer haha

They grill mushrooms alongside too. Only one comes free, so I'd recommend finishing it and then ordering more haha. One seemed enough for us though.

The marinated ribs definitely cooked faster? Maybe because of the seasoning coating them haha
We had a beer alongside too.
Fresh ribs taste mild, kind of like pork belly or pork neck — plain but in a good way! And being tender made them even easier to eat. But my son, being used to the marinated flavor, said the marinated ribs were tastier haha. It's a matter of taste I guess, but both were delicious.
The doenjang jjigae had that real countryside soybean paste flavor too!!! So good haha

My son ate a ton of pork galbi with mushrooms on top of rice haha. After swimming and then eating pork galbi, he was fully protein-charged~ maybe a blood sugar spike hit him because he got sleepy lol lolllllll Wake up, son.

Is 4 servings enough for a family of three?
Seriously, only bones were left lolllllllll We ordered 3 servings for our family of 3 and it was plenty — filling and generous in portion. This place has great value for money~~!!
The side dishes were clean and no-frills too, and delicious. Both the kid and the adults left full and happy.
