My mom came to visit Daegu, and this time I wanted to treat her to a proper meal instead of just something quick — so I brought her to Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch :)

In Daegu you often get around by car, so parking really matters when you're bringing your parents. Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch has lots available across the 1st, 3rd, and 4th floors — up to 100 cars — so we had zero parking worries. It's also set up nicely for family gatherings or group dinners, with room tables and seating for up to 100 people. So I figured it'd be a good spot to take the older folks for a meal.

You could feel the good-restaurant vibe just from the entrance haha.

There were various banchan and meal kits on display, and it looked like the owner is a baseball fan since there was baseball merch around too — fun to look at haha. There was even a separate waiting area, which made it feel like they'd thought of everything for their guests!

Hanwoo bulgogi pot rice set 20,000 won, kkomak salad (small) 8,000 won

Geumdeungeo is famous for its oven-grilled dishes, but my mom said she wanted beef bulgogi more, haha. So we ordered the beef bulgogi pot rice set at ₩20,000 per person, plus a small kkomak (blood clam) salad at ₩8,000, which apparently a lot of people order as an extra.

What comes with the set: banchan and the self-bar

As soon as we ordered, a generous spread of banchan (side dishes) arrived — pickled broccoli, geotjeori (fresh kimchi), sweet-and-sour eggplant, doraji (bellflower root) namul, braised lotus root, japchae, salad, gondre namul, and more. Such a wide variety!

On top of that, the self-bar had several more banchan ready to go, so I could just help myself to more without feeling shy about it — that was a nice touch.

The pickled broccoli was especially unique, and the braised lotus root, dyed a striking yellow with gardenia fruit, stood out too. Little details like these made me feel properly taken care of, haha.

The basic swiss chard soup was packed with dried shrimp, giving it a refreshing broth.

Hanwoo bulgogi and chickpea pot rice

The main dish, beef bulgogi, came together beautifully with scallions, crown daisy, and glass noodles — even the broth was delicious.

And then, finally, the pot rice! Freshly cooked, moist and glistening, topped with chickpeas — it looked pretty and felt healthy at the same time.

I scooped the rice out quickly and poured water into the pot to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea) haha — I really love sungnyung, is it just me?

Sweet and tangy kkomak (blood clam) salad

We piled the kkomak (blood clam) salad onto seaweed sheets and dipped it lightly in soy sauce — and honestly, it was just too good... Unlike the soy-sauce-seasoned clams we make at home, this had a sweet-and-tangy chojang-style sauce, which made it feel different and delicious.

Piling beef bulgogi on top of the pot rice for a big bite made me feel like I was in Hoengseong haha.

By the time we finished the rice, topping the sungnyung with kimchi hit the spot — such a familiar flavor, but why is it always so good, haha. It felt like a proper, satisfying meal.

Dessert seolgi rice cake and the drink self-bar

At the end, they brought out a rice cake made with healthy ingredients like sweet pumpkin and green peas — felt looked after right to the last bite! After the meal, we could pick from coffee, plum tea, sikhye, or lemonade at the drink self-bar, served over ice — so dessert and café all in one stop.

My mom was really happy, and seeing her enjoy the food made me even happier, haha. Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch is truly a place worth going back to again and again!

Next time my in-laws visit Daegu, I'm planning to bring them here too :) If you're looking for a place to take your parents or somewhere for a family meal, I'd recommend Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch, a hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) restaurant in Wolseong-dong. From parking to food to dessert, everything was easy and comfortable, making it a great spot for a family meal. When it comes to good hanjeongsik in Wolseong-dong, you really do need a proper meal to make it worthwhile, haha.
