Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch, a local favorite in Jangseong-dong, Pohang. Today I'm writing a review of [ Hwanggeum Jokbal ], a jokbal restaurant in Jangseong-dong, Pohang Buk-gu. Apparently all the locals living in Jangseong-dong only eat jokbal here..!? So I went straight to check out this jokbal restaurant myself :)
Where is Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch? Near Hwanho Park in Pohang

Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch is near Hwanho Park in Pohang. There's a grocery mart nearby before heading back to my accommodation, and since it's a famous jokbal spot, I came to pick some up for dinner instead of grilled meat tonight.

Takeout discount and Pohang Love Gift Certificates
You get a ₩2,000 discount when you take out from Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch. From the lottery event to the takeout discount, they do all sorts of things! We were taking out jokbal, so we'd get the ₩2,000 discount.

You can also use Pohang Love Gift Certificates and high oil price relief funds at this restaurant, so if you have any to use, this would be a good place :)

The jokbal is vacuum-packed and kept warm, so it stays warm even after you take it back to your accommodation! Moist, tender-looking jokbal was waiting for me.. (drooling)

Two owners greeted us super kindly, and the dining hall had quite a few tables! But seeing all the packed food, it seemed like takeout orders were doing brisk business too.
Ordering the Large front-leg royal jokbal for 42,000 won
- Large (front leg) .. ₩42,000
They say front leg meat tastes better than back leg, so we ordered the royal jokbal made entirely of front leg :) Just thought of this now, but I wish I'd ordered the jaengban guksu (cold noodles on a tray) too, so disappointing....!

Hwanggeum Jokbal also gives you a lucky lottery ticket! It's not a real lottery, but one issued by Hwanggeum Jokbal — apparently every week they give out alcohol and lottery tickets based on the national lottery draw numbers :) These little events are pretty fun!

The owner couple(?) were super kind all the way to the door, which made me feel great, and having bought delicious jokbal, off to the accommodation we went - 🤍
The takeout spread back at the room, plus free hangover soup

Setting it all out looked so clean 💗 Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch's jokbal doesn't come in separate sizes — we ordered the front-leg Large, and the portion was really generous!

We heated the complimentary hangover soup in a pot — it's not intensely rich like a dedicated hangover soup restaurant, but well seasoned in a lighter style(?). The meat and other ingredients were surprisingly generous, enough that hangover soup + rice alone could fill you up!

How the jokbal tasted: dried radish kimchi is the kicker
The jokbal had a slightly sweet-savory seasoning that hit exactly right for my taste!? The dried radish kimchi that comes with it, kind of like a mu-saengchae, is seriously the kicker here..! They gave a generous amount, and I kept eating it with the meat...

They told us it's best eaten right away, but unfortunately we ate it about an hour after packing it up. Yet surprisingly it wasn't tough at all — it was tender, more than I expected. I guess that's what it means to be a real Jangseong-dong jokbal restaurant — still good even when it's cooled down a bit.....

The skin was chewy, and the inside was boiled tender with no dryness. And of course, no gamey smell at all, which was the best part....🫶🏻

Is it enough for 3 people? Leftovers to spare
Honestly, what I liked most was that they stick to the essentials without any fuss. Lately a lot of places give you extra sides but quietly shrink the jokbal portion... lol. But here, the jokbal portion is generous, and they only give you exactly what pairs well with it — I loved that. No wasted extras to throw away.
My aunt, who ate with me, also praised the jokbal, saying "the jokbal here is pretty good." We really had a filling dinner with the jokbal plus sashimi picked up from Jukdo Market. (There was even a bit of jokbal left over even though 3 of us were eating..)

They also gave us plenty of lettuce wraps, so we wrapped a lot of these — and the dried radish kimchi is truly the kick... it pairs this well with jokbal, so now I'm curious how well it would go with bossam (boiled pork wraps) too.

Truly a chewy-yet-tender jokbal restaurant, Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch. If you haven't settled on a favorite jokbal spot yet, definitely visit here! I'm planning to try the bossam next time, so curious how good it'll be... That's it for today's Pohang Jangseong-dong jokbal restaurant, Hwanggeum Jokbal!
