Konkuk izakaya for millefeuille nabe and amberjack sashimi: Ito
In short
Ito is an izakaya on the basement level of a building three minutes' walk from Konkuk University Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. Two friends shared a limited-quantity millefeuille nabe (layered pork and cabbage hot pot) and an assorted sashimi platter with two glasses of draft beer, and the summer amberjack and sweet shrimp were the highlights. Ito is dim, cozy and open until 1am, which makes it a good pick for a date or a second-round drinking spot.

A Konkuk bar recommendation with seasonal sashimi and a great vibe — Ito

Where is Ito and what are its hours?
Ito is an izakaya located a 3-minute walk from Konkuk University Station, in the basement level at 22 Achasan-ro 33-gil. My friend and I came out to Konkuk to hang out today! I've been running all over Seoul this year eating a ton of good food 😋 and among all of it, I really want to introduce Ito, a Konkuk bar I ate really well at ✨. It was so close to the station, about a 3-minute walk from Konkuk University Station.

What is the atmosphere like inside Ito?
The inside of Ito was really pleasant and clean, which I liked ☺️. One thing that stuck with me was that the bathroom even had mouthwash and other hygiene items — it made me feel like this is a place that really cares about its guests. The interior was also on the dimmer side, which gave it a cozy atmosphere, great for a date too 🫶.
Ito's food menu: sashimi, nabe and small plates

Ito's menu had about 5 kinds of nabe (hot pot), and sashimi was sold separately too. I really love izakayas 🤤 and the menu here was full of things I love. With 5 nabe options, it was hard to decide, but I went with the limited-quantity millefeuille nabe! Since sashimi was also available, we ordered the assorted sashimi platter too! There was also flounder salt gimbap (seaweed rice roll) and sorbet options, which looked great for a second-round spot too.
Drinks menu at Ito: draft beer, soju and sake
Ito's drinks menu was varied too — I was surprised to see a Malibu highball on there. Besides that, they also had sake, soju, and draft beer!

Beans came out as the basic side dish, and the small plates were already set out for us!
We ordered two glasses of draft beer today! A light draft beer to start things off 🍻.
Limited-quantity millefeuille nabe: portion size and taste
Ito's millefeuille nabe is a limited-quantity item, generously portioned with a sweetish seasoning. First up, the millefeuille nabe! The presentation was so pretty. When something looks this good, there's a good chance it tastes good too — and this one won on both looks and flavor! ✨🎶
Warm nabe with drinks while sitting under the cool AC — the drinks just kept flowing 🤤.

The portion was really generous! The seasoning was just right, with a lovely sweetish flavor 👍.

There was so much of it that we could eat to our heart's content, and it made me curious about how the other nabe varieties would taste. The millefeuille nabe totally passed the test! 👏

I don't usually dip things in chili sauce, but I tried dipping the meat and cabbage in the chili sauce they gave us, and wow, it was so good! It felt totally new. I dipped it just in case it was good, and it was a total plot twist! 🫢

What comes on Ito's assorted sashimi platter?
Ito's assorted sashimi platter included sweet shrimp, ankimo (monkfish liver), tuna, abalone, amberjack, flounder, salmon, and sea bream. The presentation of the assorted sashimi was also out of this world — it was packed with seafood that just couldn't taste bad!
The presentation was truly overwhelming!

The flounder was chewy yet thick, with great texture and flavor! Flounder can be seen as kind of a basic choice, but I really enjoyed it 🫶.

The sweet shrimp! Honestly the sweetest, plumpest sweet shrimp I've ever had, with no fishy taste at all, so I really enjoyed it ✨👍. It's surprisingly hard to find a place that does sweet shrimp well!

The salmon was also sliced thick, from a nicely fatty cut, so it was really delicious. So fresh, as always! 💕

For the abalone, they trimmed the innards separately and placed them on top, which made it perfect for one bite, and the abalone itself was very well prepared.

The tuna was also thick-cut, with exactly the tartness I love, and it melted in my mouth completely. No fishy taste here either!

Why amberjack is the summer pick at Ito
Amberjack is usually thought of as a winter fish, but there's a kind you can eat in summer too — amberjack (jaetbang-eo)!!! It was absolutely the best. Fatty yet with a hint of tartness — just as delicious as the winter version 🫶.

Melt-in-your-mouth amberjack, and everything was just perfect!

The sea bream was chewy too, with great umami — total pass!

There was also ankimo (monkfish liver). It had a savory yet smooth flavor that stood out. The combination of things that just couldn't taste bad was wild 🫢.

And especially the egg — that was the real kicker!! Sweet and fluffy, totally my style.
Wasabi and soy sauce, the classic combo, right?
Making your own sushi with Ito's vinegared rice
Ito's assorted sashimi platter came with vinegared rice too, so we could make our own sushi. I put salmon on top and ate it that way! It was a great time getting to enjoy a meal and drinks together with my friend.
If you're looking for a proper izakaya in Konkuk, I highly recommend Ito 🌟. Great atmosphere, great food, and the staff were kind too, so I was satisfied with everything! 100% would come back.
