In short

Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa is a Japanese pub in the Daehangno area of Jongno, Seoul, 103 m from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station on Line 4. The set of 5 charcoal yakitori skewers with 5 pieces of oden costs 26,000 won, and this visit added marshmallow fish cake plus dango and soy-glazed grilled mochi on the side, all with draft beer. A tableside mini oden cooker keeps the broth hot, so Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa suits a slow, long round of drinks.

Yakitori and oden spread at Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa

I went hunting for good food near Hyehwa Station and ended up at Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa, where I had yakitori skewers and oden — haha!

This is a place in Daehangno where you can enjoy yakitori and oden together, so I stopped by for dinner and a drink. Today's post covers the charcoal yakitori 5-skewer set, the oden 5-piece set, and the marshmallow oden I'd been curious about.

Where is Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa, and is there parking?

Exterior of Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa near Hyehwa Station

Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa is on the 1st floor at 10 Changgyeonggung-ro 34-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It's only 103 meters from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station (Line 4), so it was easy to find.

Outside the store, there were signs for the signature sukiyaki, draft beer, and outdoor seating. Parking isn't available, so keep that in mind if you're driving.

Inside Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa: dolls, a snack display and a chandelier upstairs

Walking in, the dolls caught my eye first. There were also snacks, candies, and jellies on display, so it was fun just looking around the store.

And the chandelier on the second floor was pretty unique. I came in thinking it was just a yakitori place, but there was more to look at than I expected, so I took a few photos.

The 5-piece oden, kept hot by a tableside mini cooker

Oden 5 pieces on a tableside mini burner

The oden 5-piece set comes with a mini oden burner on the table, so the order stays warm the whole time. The 5 pieces arrive fully cooked on a wooden tray, and you enjoy them with warm broth right at the table. The broth had a familiar bonito flavor, and it wasn't too heavy as a drinking snack.

5 charcoal yakitori skewers: chicken wing, heart and chicken skin

I also ordered the charcoal yakitori 5-skewer set. There's a combo discount of ₩2,000 when you order oden plus skewers together! It looked delicious the moment it hit the table.

The chicken wing skin was grilled to a golden brown — so tempting! Went great with the draft beer.

The heart had a chewy texture. It's a different texture from the chicken wings or chicken skin, so it was fun to try a variety of skewers. The chicken skin was grilled crisp on the outside, with a salty sauce added — haha.

What does marshmallow fish cake taste and feel like?

I also added the marshmallow oden. The name itself was so unusual I was curious about the texture, and it turned out to be quite different from regular oden. It was fluffy and chewed soft. I understood why it's called 'marshmallow' — it was like eating a cloud!

Added marshmallow oden

Every one of the 5 oden pieces was so good!!!

Side orders: dango and soy-glazed grilled mochi

For sides, I also tried dango (sweet rice dumpling skewers) and soy-glazed grilled mochi. The dango had a chewy texture with sweet sauce, making it a nice light bite after the meal. I was in the mood for something sweet today!

Grilled mochi topped with soy sauce

Ah... isn't this the textbook definition of sweet-and-salty? So chewy!!!! With the sweet soy sauce, it made a nice simple drinking snack.

Draft beer ordered alongside the yakitori

How the oden and skewers pair with draft beer

I ordered draft beer along with the charcoal yakitori. Eating grilled skewers like chicken wings and chicken skin with cold draft beer, then following it up with warm oden broth, worked really well together. Being able to keep the oden warm at the table also made it good for drinking slowly.

Final word on yakitori and oden together in Daehangno

Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa is close to Hyehwa Station and easy to get to, and you can enjoy yakitori and oden together there. The oden especially could be eaten warm the whole time, and the yakitori came in enough varieties to pick and share several kinds. This time I tried the 5 yakitori skewers and oden, and adding the marshmallow oden on top made for a fun, unusual bite. If you're looking for a bar near Hyehwa Station where you can have yakitori and oden together in Daehangno, this one's worth checking out.
