If you're on the hunt for good samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) in Dungok-dong, Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Daejeon Dungok branch (한마음정육식당 대전둔곡점) is worth a stop. It's a comfortable spot for meat-loving families or friends, with the appeal of a butcher-shop-style restaurant where you can enjoy fresh meat at reasonable prices.

I went and ordered the pork half-plate along with ramen and self-serve fried rice, and ate very well indeed. Shall we go get some good meat together?

The kids' gym for families

One space that really caught my eye was the kids' gym. Visiting a BBQ restaurant with kids can mean they get bored during the meal, so having a space where children can enjoy themselves was especially welcome for family visitors.

The pork half-plate arrived, and — maybe it's just me — but the portion was really huge.

A generous bowl of doenjang soup (soybean paste soup) comes included.

Vegetable jjolmyeon (chewy noodles). This one's the real deal.

The pork skin was completely fresh — totally my style.

Grilling the samgyeopsal and pork skin

From the moment the meat hit the grill and started sizzling, my mouth was watering.

Cut into easy-to-eat pieces and grilled to a nice golden brown, the savory flavor of the pork really came through.

Enjoying the characteristic richness and juiciness of samgyeopsal wrapped up with lettuce and side dishes made it even better.

The meat was really tender and tasty.

I grilled up some pork skin too, and interestingly it was noticeably softer than at other places, so I kept reaching for more.

When I asked for a refill of the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), they gave me even more than the first serving.

Finishing with ramen and self-serve fried rice

I ordered some ramen that goes well with the meat. Cold noodles and meat are a classic pairing, but apparently cold noodles alongside warm meat isn't so great for the stomach. So I ordered ramen instead — check out this look, it even had bean sprouts and scallions properly loaded in, and it was really delicious.

And I also ordered the self-serve fried rice. The portion was really generous, which I loved. It was properly fluffy, with plenty of varied ingredients, and so easy to make yourself.

Next time, I'd like to try some of the other meat menu options.
