This time I went to a yajang (outdoor grilling) spot in Bangwha-dong for beef brisket and scallop. Last time I had a great time enjoying minari pork belly at outdoor tables on a cool evening, so I came back to 'Hwapyeongjip'!

Looks delicious just by looking at it, right? haha Hwapyeongjip has plenty of options besides the beef brisket combo — pork belly, pork neck, thin-sliced pork belly and more, depending on your mood! We didn't visit twice for nothing. haha
Is Hwapyeongjip's brisket-scallop combo worth it? The verdict first
Hadn't had a beef brisket-scallop combo in a while — the scallops were fresh and in great condition, and the brisket cut was great too, so it was really delicious. Also, I would've regretted it if I hadn't ordered the hangover risotto. It's a spicy, thick drinking-food option. The vegetables were fresh and the side dishes were tasty too.

What are the outdoor seats and interior like at Hwapyeongjip?
Hwapyeongjip is a Korean BBQ restaurant with both outdoor tables and a spacious indoor hall. We visited in the evening.

Honestly, I wondered, 'oh...? was there really a BBQ place tucked away from the main street...?' but when I peeked inside, there were a lot of people..haha

There are outdoor seats too! Since the weather was nice and cool that day, we sat outside! An outdoor BBQ spot right in the middle of Seoul was such a nice surprise~!
Looking at the indoor seating, it's spacious with plenty of tables — great for family, friend, or coworker gatherings, right?

The interior space is roomy all the way in, so it would be great for a comfortable meal with family or a partner if you're traveling. Depending on your preference, you can dine indoors, or choose the outdoor seats on a cool day~!
What comes with the 59,500 won signature brisket combo?
Hwapyeongjip's signature beef brisket combo is ₩59,500 and includes 400g of beef brisket + 15 pieces of scallop + minari (water dropwort) + doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) + a choice of risotto or naengmyeon (cold noodles). We started off by ordering this.

The beef brisket visual is great, right?

The scallops that came out next were in great condition too, and they tasted amazing.

Being able to grill slowly while keeping everything warm as you eat at your own pace seems to be the advantage of this beef brisket combo!

We also grilled some minari and napa cabbage kimchi together.

Stacking up the brisket piece by piece and taking a bite — it's just the right amount of fatty, and the scallop takes the meat's flavor up another level.

Especially for me! Right when the brisket starts to feel a little greasy, the combo of scallop + brisket + pickled peppers(?) is so good. It felt refreshing, like a reset before diving back in.

Soju and beer at 4,000 won, plus the hangover cream risotto
Oh, and especially..! Soju and beer at Hwapyeongjip are ₩4,000 each!!!!! With good-quality meat and an outdoor BBQ atmosphere, plus drinks at just ₩4,000, I could see myself coming here often!

At the end we debated between naengmyeon and the hangover cream risotto, and I would've really regretted it if I hadn't ordered the risotto. Savory and creamy — such a great pairing with drinks.
Side dishes and the self-bar at Hwapyeongjip
Hwapyeongjip's basic side dishes include kimchi, radish wraps, bean sprouts, pickled peppers, and more! Those pickled peppers are the kicker when wrapped up with the brisket combo!

This is the doenjang jjigae that comes with the set — warm and comforting, it really got my appetite going.

The cheongyang chili peppers and garlic were fresh and tasty too.

Salt and pickled onions also come as basic side dishes, doubling as a small plate.

You can see how fresh the lettuce wraps look, right? They really did taste fresh, so we wrapped up a lot of bites with them.

At the self-bar, you can help yourself to fresh vegetables, pickled peppers and more, conveniently.
Thoughts after a second visit to Hwapyeongjip
After trying the pork belly last time and now the beef brisket-scallop combo, my thought was that this place really uses good-quality meat and ingredients. I plan to come back again next time I want to hit the outdoor tables on a cool day!
If you're near Bangwha Station in Seoul and want delicious pork belly or a beef brisket-scallop combo grilled outdoors, or you want to enjoy a drink at a reasonable price, check out Hwapyeongjip near Bangwha Station..!
