A while back my boyfriend and I went over to the Magok COEX area and stopped by J's Pot Magok Branch, a popular spot near Magongnaru Station. It's a fusion hot pot brand that's well known in Pangyo, and I was curious since they'd opened a branch in Magok COEX too!

We ordered the beef set and the seafood platter set, one each, and since it's a personal-pot hot pot style where everyone gets their own pot, it actually made for a pretty solid date menu. Great for hot pot lovers, but also for people who find strongly spiced Chinese-style hot pot a bit much~~

It's also convenient if you're coming from a date at Seoul Botanic Park or LG Arts Center to grab a meal, and since the building has parking, it works well for family dinners or group gatherings too.

Inside J's Pot Magok: one hot pot per person

Interior of J's Pot Magok Branch with a clean, casual restaurant vibe

The space felt less like a typical Chinese hot pot joint and more like a clean, casual restaurant. There were table setups good for larger groups too, so it seemed like a solid choice not just for couples but for friend gatherings, family dinners, or a Magok work dinner spot.

Table seating at J's Pot Magok Branch suited for larger groups

It was nice that even if your dining companion can't handle spicy food or you each prefer a different broth, everyone can just eat their own way. And if you want to eat hot pot solo, the personal-pot format makes it feel a lot less daunting than a regular hot pot place~~

Personal induction burner at each table for one pot per person

Best of all, every table has its own induction burner, so it really is one pot per person!

What's in the beef set (22,000 won) and the seafood platter set (26,000 won)?

Sauce bar at J's Pot Magok Branch

Mixing your own peanut sauce at the J's Pot sauce bar

At J's Pot Magok Branch you can mix your own sauce at the sauce bar however you like. Making the sauce is honestly half the fun of hot pot. Mixing different things together means the same ingredients can taste completely different depending on the sauce, which I love.

Soy-based sauce mixed at the sauce bar
Bowl of homemade peanut sauce

We made a basic soy-based sauce and a peanut sauce. If you like bold flavors, definitely make the peanut sauce!! There's a good amount of spice mixed in, and it cuts through the peanut's richness perfectly — so good.

Starting with vegetables and mushrooms in the beef broth

When we got back from making sauce, the hot pot was already set up.

We picked the basic beef broth!

Personal hot pot with basic beef broth

We started by putting the vegetables and mushrooms into the broth and boiling it hard. As the flavor came out of the mushrooms and vegetables, the broth got noticeably richer over time~~

Hot pot simmering with vegetables and mushrooms

The beef was thin so it didn't need long cooking — just a quick dip — and eating it with the vegetables dipped in sauce is, as always, a combination that never fails.

Lightly cooked thin beef slices with vegetables

The mushroom assortment also had a great range of textures, good to scoop out and eat along the way!

Was the seafood platter worth 26,000 won?

The seafood platter was quite good too. Boiling the seafood added savory depth to the broth, so it got better and better the further along we went.

Seafood hot pot simmering with seafood added

Honestly, you can't expect raw-fish-restaurant-level seafood quality, but for the price, getting this much variety and volume of seafood felt satisfying haha. It's a different vibe from the meat-focused beef set, so if there are two of you, ordering one of each to share seems like a good idea.

Shrimp balls vs. beef balls: which to choose

And I really have to recommend the shrimp balls. Bouncy with that distinct savory shrimp flavor, they were amazing after eating so much beef 🤭 We tried both the beef balls and shrimp balls, and personally I thought the shrimp balls were seriously bouncy and delicious.

Finishing the hot pot with noodles

After working through vegetables, meat, and seafood, the finale is noodle time~~

Noodles added at the end of the meal

Since the broth had already absorbed so many ingredients, adding the noodles made the flavor even richer — the perfect way to finish. We said we were full and then finished the noodles anyway lol.

Even the panda decoration looked like it was eating hot pot too(?) lolololol

Is J's Pot Magok a good date spot? Final verdict

J's Pot Magok Branch felt less like traditional hot pot and more like an easygoing fusion hot pot or shabu-shabu experience. Because it's one pot per person, everyone can eat their own way, and at ₩22,000 the beef set already includes vegetables, meat, noodles, mushrooms, and a meatball — the lineup isn't bad at all!

Above all, the place is clean, so I'd recommend it to:

  • Anyone looking for a date spot near Magok COEX
  • Anyone near Magongnaru Station craving something warm and brothy
  • Families who want a restaurant that lets everyone eat their own way
  • Anyone looking for a Magok work dinner or friend gathering spot

If you're in Magok and craving hot pot or shabu-shabu one day, J's Pot Magok Branch is worth a try!
