What's the atmosphere like?

J's Pot Magok Branch, where I stuffed myself with hot pot, has its flagship store in Pangyo — this branch is casual, a fusion hot pot restaurant anyone can enjoy comfortably. The interior is spacious and clean, making it a great spot for a Magok work dinner, family meal, group gathering, or couple's date!

Since there's a bar table and various table seats, if you've been looking for a solo-dining spot near Magongnaru, you can get a good-value hot pot meal here, especially at lunchtime!

Private rooms and bar table

There's a bar table as well as rooms that fit 5 to 10 people, plus group seating for 10 to 50 people, making it a good fit for a Magok work dinner or gathering! There was a panda plush sitting in the middle of the bar table, right next to my seat, haha. It was so cute I gave it a pat 😆

Mixing your own basic sauce and peanut sauce at the sauce bar

J's Pot Magok Branch, where the hot pot near Magongnaru is delicious, also keeps a neatly maintained sauce bar where you mix sauces to your own taste! There are recipes written out for 4 sauces total — basic, peanut, spicy chili, and 🌶️ spicy — and for lunch my husband and I made the basic sauce and the peanut sauce.

The peanut sauce I made at J's Pot Magok, a favorite for Magok hot pot, had extra crushed peanuts and Lao Gan Ma chili crisp added to suit my taste — spicy and sweet, an absolute standout — and the basic sauce, made with a seafood soy sauce base, was so sweet-salty and refreshing that I think everyone should try making it at least once, haha.

Menu, prices, and how many broths are there?

True to its name, J's Pot Magok Branch, where I stuffed myself with hot pot, was packed with hot pot menu items — from lunch menus to set menus, sets made up most of the offerings, with combinations you could pick to your liking: lamb, pork, beef brisket, short rib, beef & seafood, seafood platter, and vegetarian sets, haha.

For single hot pot dishes, there's also chadol kimchi udon, mala budae jeongol (army stew hot pot), beef brisket minari mushroom kalguksu, and beef bulgogi jeongol, all good for a filling and tasty lunch. You can also choose from beef, mala, tomato, tom yum, kimchi, katsuo, Mongolian, and tonkotsu broths — I think this is the first Magok work-dinner spot I've seen with this many broth options, haha.

Bar table seat with individual induction cooktop

I ordered the Lunch Woo Samgyeop Hot Pot and my husband ordered the Beef Set, and we ate at the bar table — being able to have a meal using an individual induction cooktop that felt clean and hygienic was really appealing :) By lunchtime, the place had filled up with office workers from nearby companies!

Lunch Woo Samgyeop Hot Pot / ₩17,500. Available Monday through Sunday, from 11am to 3pm, this is the good-value hot pot set at this Magongnaru favorite — I ordered it with choice of broth + assorted vegetables + 100g beef brisket + rice + 2 fish balls.

I chose the spicy mala broth, and it was as tingly and fiery as at a dedicated mala restaurant — perfect for a mood reset, haha! As the broth started boiling, they loaded it up with fresh bok choy, napa cabbage, fish balls, bean sprouts, and fried tofu. Since you can adjust the heat on the individual induction at J's Pot near Coex Magok, cooking the ingredients was quick and easy.

The beef brisket was chilled, not frozen, so it was soft and had an outstanding nutty flavor!! It soaked up the rich mala broth's aroma and taste nicely, making it spicy and satisfying — the broth alone was flavorful enough that you didn't even need to dip it in the sauce!

Beef brisket and fish balls cooked in mala broth

I heard they make handmade fish balls at J's Pot Magok, a hot pot spot near Magongnaru! I usually don't eat much of the fish ball type ingredients when having mala tang or hot pot, but these were so soft and nutty, melting in my mouth, that I can now say I can't eat hot pot without them. Dipping the plain white rice briefly in the broth and pulling it out also helped balance out the spiciness while filling me up more :)

My husband said he wanted a savory, rich flavor so he picked the beef broth, and its clean yet comforting taste — one that warms you from the inside — would be perfect for curing a hangover, haha.

The bright red beef, obviously fresh at a glance, came in a generous portion even for one person! You can also add various meats like beef, lamb, and beef brisket, as well as tofu, assorted mushrooms, dumplings, and glass noodles — a Magok hot pot spot where you can experience a rich range of flavors.

Dipping beef, beef brisket, bok choy, bean sprouts, and fish balls into the sauce we made at the clean self-serve sauce bar — how could that not be delicious? 💛💛💛 I was especially surprised at how many office workers came in for lunch, and after trying it myself, I understood why this is a go-to spot at Coex Magok.

To finish, we added corn noodles and boiled them, but honestly I was so~~ full that I left a lot behind. If we hadn't ordered the orange chicken side dish I'll introduce below, I probably would have finished it all — promising myself to finish it next time, haha.

Orange Chicken ₩16,000

Orange Chicken / ₩16,000. I think part of the reason J's Pot, a Magok hot pot favorite at Coex Magok, has made a name for itself is this orange chicken! Once you try the orange chicken, full of sweet-and-tangy orange aroma and flavor, you keep thinking about it, ㅠㅠ.

It's made with big pieces of boneless chicken, and the batter isn't super crispy — more on the soft side — so it might actually be a good pick as a family-dining item if you're bringing young kids. It also came with big orange pieces, so it was sweet, tangy, and delicious :) Taking a bite of this between spoonfuls of the spicy mala hot pot balanced out the heat, and I kept falling for the combo of sweet-and-tangy with spicy-and-fiery, haha.

What kind of occasion suits this place?

This Coex favorite, J's Pot Magok Branch, also has various single dishes beyond orange chicken — General Tso's chicken, macaron menbosha, vegetable sweet and sour pork, soy chao fan, egg fried rice, and a kids' menu — so it's good to bring children too! J's Pot, where I stuffed myself with hot pot near Magongnaru, is a place where anyone, regardless of age or taste preferences, can have a clean and healthy meal!! The atmosphere is upscale and tidy, but it works for solo dining, family meals, friend gatherings, dates, blind dates, and group dinners alike — if you're looking for a good restaurant near Magongnaru Station, go pay it a visit :)
