Oillaenae Jeonbuk National University Branch near the old main gate

Today I went for pork belly at “Oillaenae Jeonbuk National University Branch (오일내 전북대점),” located on the street by Jeonbuk National University’s old main gate •• It’s a place I stop by now and then whenever I’m craving pork belly near campus! Maybe because this was a meal after cleaning with my classmates... we seriously replenished our energy with meat!!!

Second-floor location guide for Oillaenae Jeonbuk National University Branch

Oillaenae is by Jeonbuk National University’s old main gate. Head a little farther in from Paik’s Coffee, and the huge sign makes the restaurant easy to find. It’s on the second floor!

This is the entrance, where the little piggy welcomes you haha. And at the waiting board by the counter, a super-talented staff member had drawn several pictures lol. I find drawing with board markers so hard, but they looked exactly like the real thing!!

Spacious table spacing and comfortable facilities

I was really satisfied with the facilities. The restaurant is roomy, and there’s genuinely plenty of space between the tables! That made it so comfortable to use haha. I think we visited around 9 p.m.? Even then, there were so many people. Definitely deserves its reputation as a great pork belly spot near Jeonbuk National University~

The restroom was really pleasant too. There are separate men’s and women’s restrooms, and a large mirror like one in a powder room at the entrance, so it’s nice for checking how you look after eating ••

Ordering the half-platter set and pork belly

We could order through the kiosk at our table.

  • Half-platter set ₩24,900
  • Korean pork belly × 2 ₩11,000
  • Meat-loaded fried rice ₩6,900

Maybe because it’s in a university area, but isn’t the value incredible?! A 150 g serving of pork belly is already inexpensive at ₩11,000, and if you order the set, you even get stew with it—such a great option for anyone looking for a good-value lunch 🤭 Two men and one woman visited, and it was enough for all of us to leave totally full!

The side dishes weren’t skimpy either. We got green onion kimchi, myeonginamul (pickled wild garlic leaves), pickled onions, and ssammu (pickled radish wraps), all perfect with the meat. Every single one was delicious haha.

The kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) that comes with the set! It even had pork belly in it, and there was plenty, so it was great to spoon up alongside the meat haha!

Thick-cut grilled pork belly

The meat is here - ♥ •• When we ordered the half-platter set, we chose half pork neck and half pork belly, so we got one serving of pork neck and three servings of pork belly.

It’s affordable, but the meat is thick!! I eat thick-cut pork belly so often now that thin pork belly feels a little disappointing... 🤤

Pork belly being grilled

We grilled it away diligently. It looked sooo delicious ㅜㅅㅜ!! The balance of fat and lean meat was just right, making it perfectly tasty pork belly! My classmate grilled the meat really well that day, so we got to eat delicious pork belly that was juicy inside and crisp outside ••

Pork belly eaten in a leaf wrap

Wrapped it up in a ssam (leaf wrap) and took a big bite, haha. I got seriously into my little mukbang.

Ta-da—🤤 For the finale, fried rice! Rather than being fried on the grill plate, it comes fully cooked, so all you have to do is eat it. It seemed like enough for two to three servings. But it was realllly~~~ delicious. These days, some pork belly restaurants don’t offer fried rice, so whenever I see it, I always order it—and I’m so glad I did. If you’re planning to visit, definitely order the fried rice.

If you’re looking for a delicious, good-value pork belly restaurant around Jeonbuk National University’s old main gate in Jeonju, I recommend “Oillaenae”! The prices are low, but the quality of the meat was so good •• It would be great for an early gathering, lunch, or dinner anytime haha.
