Paju restaurant near Lotte Outlet for weekday lunch: brisket suyuk
In short
Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu is a Pyeongyang-style mandu (dumpling) restaurant in Paju Book City, Gyeonggi, close to Lotte Outlet Paju. Visiting for a weekday lunch with her mom, the writer ordered the pyeongyang mandu hot pot for two with clear broth and a half plate of aromsatae suyuk (thinly sliced boiled beef shank), praising the silky texture of the meat, the mild tofu-and-vegetable dumplings, the self-serve yuja danmuji (citron pickled radish), and the free misutgaru (roasted grain drink). With wide parking, high chairs, and neat side dishes, it's a solid pick for a family meal with elders in tow.

Before heading to Lotte Outlet Paju with my mom, I went looking for a good restaurant near Paju Book City and ended up at Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu. The place was packed even on a weekday lunch. Personally, I'd totally recommend it as a family dining spot.

Parking and the vibe inside
The lot is huge, with parking both in front of and behind the restaurant, and the spaces are wide enough for large vehicles to park easily.
Walking in, I was greeted by a clean interior and a spacious dining hall.
Most customers were in their 40s to 70s, and there was even a solo diner having pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). The tables are wide, the interior is tidy, and the side dishes are neatly presented — it's a great spot for dining out with elders.
We were seated by the window, and I loved getting a sunlit spot by the floor-to-ceiling glass.

What to order for two
I wanted to try the pyeongyang naengmyeon too, but figured it would be too much food.

We ordered the pyeongyang mandu hot pot for two and a half plate of aromsatae suyuk — it turned out to be enough for 2–3 people!

I'm the type who prefers individually wrapped utensils at restaurants. It feels a bit off using loose spoons and chopsticks that everyone's hands have touched, so I appreciated the individually packaged sets here — clean and tidy.

Pyeongyang mandu hot pot: clear broth vs. spicy broth
Our pyeongyang mandu hot pot arrived with 8 pyeongyang mandu, wheat noodle add-ins, and a variety of vegetables. The vegetables were noticeably fresh.

You can choose between clear broth and spicy broth, but since pyeongyang mandu's charm is its mild, understated flavor, I went with the clear broth. Best pick: clear broth.

Don't skip the aromsatae suyuk half plate
But this aromsatae suyuk from Bubyeokjeong is something you absolutely must add. It's the softest brisket suyuk I've ever had... thin, tender, and it melts in your mouth.

Dipping it in the sauce that comes with the chives is pure bliss. I'd recommend this for a family meal — the seasoning is spot-on for older palates and it's the kind of dish elders will love.

The grain of the meat was really, really tender, with no dryness or heaviness at all. I asked my mom how you'd even boil meat to get it this soft.
Among the self-serve banchan: baek-kimchi and yuja danmuji
You can help yourself to extra side dishes, and among them, the baek-kimchi (white kimchi) and yuja danmuji (citron pickled radish) won me over. The danmuji especially had some kind of yuja (citron) syrup mixed in, turning the usual tartness into something bright and refreshing — totally my style haha.

The hourglass timer and what's inside the dumplings
There's an hourglass timer on the table — flip it and start eating right away.
While that's counting down, the vegetables for the mandu hot pot and the dipping sauce are prepared in advance.
The dumpling skin isn't too thin or too thick, and the filling is just tofu, mung bean sprouts, and cabbage. No meat, which actually makes it cleaner-tasting — no heaviness afterward, easy to digest, and since it's tofu-based, it's light and totally my style.

All the vegetables were fresh, so the texture held up well — the mushrooms especially had great aroma and a nice squeaky bite. As the vegetables simmered in, the broth got richer and deeper too.
The pyeongyang mandu soaking up the broth was excellent. This was my first time trying real pyeongyang-style mandu, and compared to store-bought meat dumplings like Bibigo, this felt so much more like an actual dumpling should taste. I think from now on, pyeongyang mandu is the only kind I'll be craving.

Then came the noodle add-in. Boiled in the broth that had been simmering with vegetables, the noodles' starch thickened everything a bit, making for a hearty, satisfying finish. This is one more reason I'd name Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu as a go-to spot near Lotte Outlet and a great family dining place :)

Free dessert: puffed rice snacks and misutgaru
They serve a neat, tidy spread of assorted puffed rice snacks as a free dessert! If it had been chocolate or candy, it wouldn't have earned extra points, but this dessert actually pairs well with the meal. And for a drink, instead of the usual instant coffee, it's misutgaru (roasted grain drink)...!!! And it's genuinely delicious.

The misutgaru wasn't watered-down either — it had a proper, rich balance of sugar and grain powder... Served in a clean container too, which felt hygienic :-) I'll definitely come back to Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu next chance I get!
They also sell take-home products — neatly packaged meal kits.

Parking registration and after-meal flow
Parking registration just requires leaving within 30 minutes after your meal, so it's nice to grab the misutgaru and puffed rice snacks, sit at the outdoor tables next to the restaurant for a slow dessert time, and then head out.
If you're heading to Lotte Outlet Paju or Paju Book City, I'd recommend stopping by Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu, a great family dining spot in Unjeong. Paju Book City also has plenty of nearby cafés and restaurants, making it a nice spot for a date or an outing!
