Apgujeong Chinese bar for a birthday dinner: Mirim Yangjang

In short

Mirim Yangjang Apgujeong is a Hong Kong-style Chinese bar and restaurant on the basement floor in Gangnam, Seoul, a 6-minute walk from Apgujeong Rodeo Station Exit 5. Two diners celebrated a birthday at Mirim Yangjang with half a Peking duck for 39,000 won, yuxiang eggplant (fish-fragrant eggplant) for 17,000 won, a Coke Zero, and a review-event half portion of egg noodles, for 59,000 won in total, and the half duck was plenty for two. With its film-set interior and private rooms, Mirim Yangjang works well for a special-occasion meal or a group dinner.

Inside Mirim Yangjang: a Hong Kong film-style room and open kitchen

The first thing that caught my eye as I stepped into Mirim Yangjang Apgujeong was the red-decorated hallway! With mirrors installed in front and to the side, it made for a great photo spot, and it felt a bit like stepping into a secret room, haha.

Going further inside, the mood shifts again. Long lighting fixtures run stylishly across the ceiling, and red chairs blend with a distinctly Hong Kong-style interior, so it really felt like stepping into a Hong Kong movie. So Apgujeong Rodeo hotspot Mirim Yangjang was fun not just for the food, but for just taking in the space itself!

And personally, the fun part was the kitchen! It's open, so I could see rows of ducks hanging inside.

It really felt like I'd stepped into an authentic Peking duck specialty restaurant in China. The look of it alone screamed proper Chinese restaurant, which really built up my expectations for the food.

Seating and private rooms — does Mirim Yangjang work for a group dinner?

There was a good variety of seating too. You can choose 2-seat, 4-seat, or 6–8-seat tables depending on your group size, and there's a mix of partitioned booths and open seating. In particular, there are separate private rooms, so you can dine a bit more privately, away from other guests. It seemed like a good spot for a date or hanging out with friends, and also a solid choice when looking for a place for a group gathering or company dinner.

What two people ordered and how it tasted: half Peking duck, yuxiang eggplant, egg noodles

💸 Order for two Peking duck (half) ₩39,000 Mapo eggplant ₩17,000 Coca-Cola Zero ₩3,000 Complimentary review-event half egg noodles → Total came to ₩59,000.

Reserved table set with scallions, bean sprouts, cucumber, and sauce

Since we'd made a reservation ahead, the table setting was already prepared when we arrived. Shredded scallions, seasoned bean sprouts, cucumber strips, and sauce were laid out to eat with the duck, along with sugared peanuts.

The first thing to arrive was the half egg noodles. Since it was the review-event menu, I expected a small portion, but the amount was more generous than I thought. Bean sprouts, onion, and egg noodles were tossed together in a special sauce — not too intense, but light and savory, which made it delicious.

Yuxiang eggplant — why I chose it over the fried eggplant

Next up was the mapo eggplant. When ordering, I actually went back and forth between fried eggplant (sweet and sour) and mapo eggplant. Since mapo eggplant is spicy-sweet-and-sour, I figured it would cut through the richness of the Peking duck nicely, so I went with that.

Trying it, it wasn't as spicy as I expected, and it had a nice crispy-yet-chewy texture. But watch out for the red chili peppers mixed in — eating one of those changes the story entirely, haha. The moment you bite into the chili, the heat spikes hard 🥵

Half Peking duck at 39,000 won — enough for two?

Finally, the half Peking duck we'd been waiting for arrived. Just looking at it, the glossy sheen alone made it look incredibly delicious. My mouth was watering the second I saw it, haha.

On top were thin, crispy slices of duck skin. Underneath sat the moist duck meat.

It also came with thin wheat pancakes to wrap the duck in.

So we got to work wrapping — piling crispy duck skin, moist duck meat, cucumber strips, seasoned bean sprouts, scallions, and sauce onto a pancake and eating it all in one bite.

On the first bite, the crispy duck skin and moist meat came through first, with crunchy vegetables adding texture in between. Then the sauce tied the whole thing together, bringing all the ingredients into one harmonious bite! That combination was genuinely delicious! Best of all, the half order was plenty for two people. Since we'd been to a café before dinner and weren't starving, we regrettably left a bit, but I'd say it's a perfectly generous portion for two.

By the time we were finishing up, I looked around and realized the place was nearly full. I guess Apgujeong Rodeo hotspot Mirim Yangjang really is a popular destination!

Final verdict — Mirim Yangjang for a birthday or group dinner

The atmosphere at Mirim Yangjang Apgujeong on a birthday visit

The food was great, but paired with the cool Hong Kong-style atmosphere, it felt like a proper Chinese dining experience with real occasion energy for my birthday! Half a Peking duck at ₩39,000 was reasonable for two, and with a side dish included, the total came to ₩59,000.

We ate well in Apgujeong, the price was reasonable, and the interior was striking — it seems like a great spot for a special, out-of-the-ordinary meal. With such a wide range of food and drinks, it's more than capable as an Apgujeong Rodeo company dinner venue too! If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant with great atmosphere in Apgujeong Rodeo, I don't think you'll regret checking out Apgujeong Rodeo hotspot Mirim Yangjang 😊
