Five dishes for two at Apgujeong Chinese bar Mirim Yangjang

In short

Mirim Yangjang Apgujeong is a Hong Kong-style Chinese bar on the basement level, a five-minute walk from Exit 5 of Apgujeong Rodeo Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Two diners ordered five dishes — half a Peking duck, mapo tofu, duck fried rice, fried eggplant and Hong Kong-style fried noodles — and cleaned every plate, with the mapo tofu and fried eggplant the standouts. Mirim Yangjang also has a private group room, so it works equally well for an Apgujeong date or a work dinner.

What is Mirim Yangjang like inside, this Apgujeong Chinese bar?

Near Apgujeong Rodeo and Dosan Park, a comfortable, clean-feeling Chinese restaurant and bar — great for dates and get-togethers!

Let me show you the inside and outside! It feels perfectly suited for dates, friend hangouts, company dinners, and business meetings. The food is great, but they clearly put just as much thought into the interior and exterior — bring your boyfriend, girlfriend, business contacts, or friends here and you'll get nothing but compliments!!

The entrance alone is so pretty!

I went at that awkward hour before dinnertime, and even then there was already someone on what looked like a blind date!! That's how much of a moody, atmospheric bar this place is.

Five dishes two people ordered at Mirim Yangjang

The menu at Mirim Yangjang Apgujeong ranges from mains to anju (drinking snacks) — so many options! Everything looked so good that the two of us ended up ordering five dishes. And we cleaned every single plate. We were stuffed, but the food was just too good to stop... Here's what I ordered:

  • Half Peking duck
  • Mapo tofu
  • Duck fried rice (orderable alongside a duck dish)
  • Fried eggplant
  • Hong Kong-style fried noodles (from a Naver review event)

As soon as you order, they set the table right away. While I was munching on the complimentary peanuts they bring,

Mapo tofu and fried eggplant, the two standouts

The food comes out looking like this. Ah, I genuinely can't forget the mapo tofu and the fried eggplant. I'm going back with a friend to have them again. Truly top-tier, heavenly flavor. Apgujeong Rodeo... among all the style-over-substance places around here, this is a real gem of a restaurant. I'm a pretty serious foodie and big eater, so please trust me on this…

And this duck fried rice? It's a genuinely 'huh, really?' kind of combination, but definitely order it together with the mapo tofu. It's unreasonably delicious. Soy sauce... oyster sauce... some secret Mirim Yangjang seasoning... I don't know exactly what it is, but it's fluffy, and the moment it hits your mouth there's this rush of wok-hei flavor — an insanely good fried rice.

How does the half Peking duck come out?

At Mirim Yangjang Apgujeong, the Peking duck comes with the skin and the meat separated for you right away. Even those thin pancake wrappers you wrap it in are pre-separated sheet by sheet with paper between them, so on a blind date you don't have to awkwardly peel them apart yourself!

For the Peking duck, just place it on the pancake, add scallion and cucumber, then drizzle on sauce to taste! We ordered the half portion and it was a generous amount, just right. Everything on the menu was delicious, so it'd go great with drinks, and it's also a fine choice for a proper meal.

Those must be my new best friends sitting on my table, right?
