Hi, it's Freeharu :) The evening weather has been so nice lately! After work on Friday I wanted a date with my husband, so we went to Gunja, which is having a moment right now. While looking for somewhere for round two, I found Kick Ass Jazz Club 🎷 It happened to be a live show night, so we ended up sipping wine and enjoying jazz too 🍷 If you're looking for a Gunja bar, a wine bar with a good vibe for a date, pay attention!

Where is Kick Ass Jazz Club and what is the room like?

Kick Ass Jazz Club is a live jazz bar on the first floor of 332 Neungdong-ro, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, near Gunja Station. I found it while looking for somewhere with a better vibe than a plain bar near Gunja Station 🎷

It's a Gunja Station bar where you can enjoy live jazz up close over a glass of wine or a cocktail — great for a date or a special evening with friends. If you're looking for a jazz bar or wine bar in Gunja, this one's worth keeping an eye on!

From the entrance, Kick Ass Jazz Club had that hip, vintage jazz bar feel down perfectly.

Step inside and the soft lighting, sleek interior, and little decor details all come together to really lift the mood. It felt so different from an ordinary bar near Gunja Station — the moment we walked in I thought, "this place has such a great vibe!" ✨

Best of all, the live stage is so close to the seats that once the music starts, you really get that vivid feeling unique to a small jazz club.

It's not too quiet or formal, so you can enjoy it comfortably even if you don't know much about jazz — perfect for a romantic Gunja date bar, but also great for a special evening with friends.

Shows at Kick Ass Jazz Club start at 7:30 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and special event days, and the cover charge is ₩12,000 per person, which apparently goes to the musicians. On show days, each table needs to order either one bottle of wine or whisky, or one food item plus one drink per person.

At Kick Ass Jazz Club we picked a bottle of wine to share, and a welcome drink and popcorn came out by default.

My husband said there was a white wine he really loved from our trip to Prague, so I picked one with a similar vibe 🍷 Sipping it while thinking back on that trip fit the jazz bar mood even better :)

A welcome drink and popcorn 🍋🍿 come out as standard. It's a refreshing lemon tonic paired with salty popcorn — this popcorn is nothing fancy, but it's so tasty haha! My hand kept reaching for it even while drinking wine!

How to book a table at Kick Ass Jazz Club

We booked ahead through Catch Table 🎫 Reservations are apparently required for Friday/Saturday live shows in particular. We booked for 7 PM, half an hour before the show, so we could take our time. Sipping wine and soaking up the atmosphere before the show started was perfect 🎷🍷

Honest review of a date night at Kick Ass Jazz Club

To cut to the chase — it felt like my husband and I had a proper date for the first time in a while! 🎷🍷

Instead of the usual dinner-and-café date, sipping wine while watching live jazz up close made for a completely different mood. This place is actually known for its date-friendly atmosphere and live shows.

What I loved most was how close the stage was to the seats — you could vividly take in both the playing and the sound — and even without knowing much about jazz, it was never intimidating.

My husband has always said he wanted to learn saxophone, and as luck would have it, that day's show happened to feature a saxophonist! 🎷 Hearing it live right in front of him got him even more excited haha. I felt like I'd really picked the right show that day 🤍 (You can check the show lineup ahead of time on Instagram!)

Midway through the show we got hungry and ordered a pastry pizza too 🍕 The crispy pastry dough with toppings on top was surprisingly delicious haha!!!! It paired so well with the wine that we polished it off. Honestly, we came for the atmosphere, but the food being this good made it even better 🤍

Before the show started, my husband happened to help the owner with something, and he thanked us by sending over a complimentary dish 🥹

Talk about generosity...! Getting treated so warmly before the show even started put us in a great mood at Kick Ass Jazz Club 🤍 Little kindnesses like this are what make a place stick in your memory!

If an ordinary bar date has started to feel a little boring, I highly recommend Kick Ass Jazz Club 🎷🍷 Between the wine, the live jazz, and the great food, time flew by. It especially hit the spot for my saxophone-loving husband 🤍 If you're planning a date near Gunja Station or looking for a Gunja bar with real atmosphere, I'd go back 100%! Next time I'll come back to catch a different lineup :)
