Everyone, today I found a hidden gem with absolutely incredible atmosphere and I'm sharing it just with you! Among all the hip spots in Sinsa-dong, this is a place that really nails the mood. This time I visited a cocktail bar in Garosugil called 'Birdman.'

Where is Birdman in Garosugil, and how do you find the entrance?

Birdman is on the basement level (B1) of 55-4 Garosugil. You just head down these stairs! It was raining that day so I went down carefully.

Inside Birdman: a dim, cozy bar for a date or first meeting

More than anything, the atmosphere of the space was so good that my heart felt cozy the moment I walked in. The lighting inside isn't too bright, giving off a calm, snug mood that's perfect for a date, and also great for a first meeting since it's easy to focus on the person across from you. Sometimes overly bright bars feel a bit much, but here the soft lighting makes everyone's face look great and naturally sets a romantic tone. Looking closely at the interior details, you'll notice bird ornaments placed with real sense throughout — and suddenly it clicks, 'ah, that's why it's called Birdman!' Overall the space has a warm yet uniquely cozy feel.

I visited wanting to have a quiet chat with a close friend, and honestly from the moment I opened the door, the mood was so perfect I let out a sigh of admiration — I fell for it hard enough to want to make it my hideout from now on. It's also easy to find on the main alley of Garosugil, and it's exactly the kind of place for a proper drink under soft lighting.

Warm handkerchief and sujeonggwa welcome tea at Birdman

When you walk into Birdman, they hand you a warm handkerchief and give you sujeonggwa (cinnamon-ginger punch) as a welcome tea. As soon as you enter, they give you this warm handkerchief. It was raining that day too, so it felt extra warm, haha. Such a thoughtful touch.

Ordering at Birdman is done by QR code! This place is famous for its really solid whisky and cocktail lineup. Flip open the menu and the sheer variety of drinks is so extensive and well curated that it would make both regular drinkers and people just getting into whisky or cocktails go wide-eyed.

Glenmorangie, Macallan and Yamazaki 12, recommended by the staff

That day we really went for it on whisky — the staff asked about our preferences and gave truly excellent recommendations. Thanks to them, we were completely spoiled. We ordered generously, from Glenmorangie, the textbook single malt, to Macallan with its incredible depth of flavor, and even Yamazaki, which is famously hard to get.

Balvenie ended up being more my style than Macallan! It's nice figuring out your own preferences one by one like this.

With every sip, the aroma and flavor were so varied and charming that I completely fell for whisky all over again. And despite enjoying such an amazing lineup, the value for money was great and everything was so delicious that I didn't mind my wallet getting lighter — I was totally satisfied. But honestly, that Yamazaki 12 year was seriously delicious... the real deal...

The parting round: crackers and Johnnie Walker Ruby

And that's not even the end! Just as we were about to wrap up a great night of drinking, the owner brought out crunchy crackers and Johnnie Walker Ruby as a service. I was genuinely touched by the unexpected surprise, haha. Pairing the crackers, a perfect match for sweet-bitter whisky, with the precious Johnnie Walker Ruby left us with such a great afterglow all the way to the end. I kind of wonder if they gave it to us because we were drinking so well, lol.

Who is Birdman in Garosugil best for?

They even had hand towels ready in the bathroom, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch. Delicious drinks, excellent recommendations, romantic and cozy interior, and the owner's warm hospitality — all three come together perfectly here.
