Gimbap restaurant near Gyodae Station for weekend solo lunch: Halls

In short

Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is a homestyle gimbap and hand-made dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) restaurant on Seochojungang-ro 22-gil near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a weekend afternoon the writer ate alone, ordering the Double Cheese Egg Set and the Jindo Scallion Tuna Gimbap at the kiosk and then asking at the counter to leave out cucumber and other vegetables. The wide dining hall and outdoor tables made solo dining feel easy, and the bonito broth is self-serve.

Weekend solo lunch at Halls Gimbap near Gyodae Station

I was craving gimbap (seaweed rice roll) so badly one weekend, and I finally made it to Halls Gimbap Main Branch, a well-known Gyodae Station spot for solo dining. It's famous as a gimbap restaurant near Gyodae Station, with lots of repeat visitors and a huge number of delivery orders too. Eating there in person, I saw just how many delivery riders kept coming in — a real sign of a proven favorite.

You can spot the horse logo from far away — Halls Gimbap specializes in homestyle gimbap and hand-battered dakgangjeong. Scrolling through the menu beforehand, I found so many tempting rolls that I had a hard time deciding. I'd really recommend checking the menu before you go, because narrowing it down takes some thought.

Seating at Halls Gimbap: wide hall and outdoor tables for solo diners or groups

The space was quite spacious, comfortable for both solo diners and groups — and I really liked that eating alone here didn't feel awkward at all. On weekdays, I've heard nearby office workers come in solo or in groups with coworkers just as often.

There were outdoor tables too, and on a nice day like this it seemed like it would be lovely to sit outside. I'd actually recommend it as a date spot — the outdoor seating looked as pretty as a restaurant terrace.

Ordering at the kiosk and asking for cucumber to be left out

Ordering is simple through the kiosk, and if there's a vegetable you can't eat, you just tell the counter after ordering. If you can't handle cucumber, for instance, let them know ahead and they'll leave it out. Next to the counter there was a whole lineup of cup noodles by type — ramyeon (instant noodles) and gimbap are an unbeatable pair, so if you eat here, make sure to grab some noodles too.

Double Cheese Egg Set and Jindo Scallion Tuna Gimbap

Halls Gimbap prides itself on being tasty and healthy — the egg omelet and fish cake are cooked in high-quality olive oil, and instead of refined sugar they use unrefined raw cane sugar. It's clearly a place that cares about ingredients, so you can just pick whichever gimbap looks good to you. As you can see in the photo on the right, there were so many appealing options — I ended up ordering the double cheese egg set and the Jindo scallion tuna gimbap. Tuna gimbap is my favorite type, so I couldn't skip it.

The double cheese egg set comes with dakgangjeong included, and it's genuinely delicious — you have to try it together with the gimbap. It's crispy outside, tender inside, so it doesn't feel heavy even while being really tasty. And of course the gimbap itself was great too.

You can see at a glance how much tuna is packed into the tuna gimbap, right? Instead of being mostly rice, it's stuffed full of filling, which made it even more satisfying. Inside, instead of just pickled radish or seasoned vegetables, the filling was more like a salad, which made it feel healthier too.

The bonito broth is also self-serve, so it's nice to sip alongside your gimbap. Perfect for when you want a bit of broth. It has no added seasoning, so it's a healthy option — make sure to grab as much as you'd like.

Would I go back to Halls Gimbap?

Halls Gimbap's rolls were packed full inside. Both dishes I tried were delicious, and now I'm curious about the other menu items. Next time I go, I'm planning to try something different. Halls Gimbap really is a gimbap restaurant worth knowing near Gyodae Station — if you like gimbap, definitely stop by.
