Apgujeong Rodeo restaurant with sujebi and pork ribs: Yeontan Gongjang
In short
Yeontan Gongjang is a long-running open-air grill restaurant hidden in an alley in the middle of Apgujeong Rodeo, Gangnam, Seoul. At 6:40pm on a Saturday the last outdoor seat was still free, and dinner was three servings of pork wang-galbi (large charcoal-grilled pork ribs, ₩19,000) plus wang-sujebi (large hand-torn dough soup, ₩23,000), with valet parking at ₩5,000 per hour. Between the charcoal-grilled ribs and the hand-torn dough soup, Yeontan Gongjang is filling enough to end the night without a second stop.

Finished up a satisfying nail art session! I was at a café sorting out studio drafts when I met up with my boyfriend!

Originally I wanted to go bike riding along the Han River since the weather was cool, but it got a bit gloomy and I didn't have the energy either haha. So we just went straight to getting some nourishment!

Couldn't ride bikes, but on a rare day that's neither hot nor cold, how could an outdoor-dining girl like me give up on outdoor dining?? I went hunting for outdoor grill spots in Apgujeong Rodeo and stumbled on an amazing outdoor grill restaurant?!? Bringing it to you now in a post~~~

Yeontan Gongjang: an old-school open-air grill restaurant in the middle of Apgujeong Rodeo
📍Yeontan Gongjang. Why is this outdoor pork belly place in Apgujeong Rodeo so great? Can you see the vibe?!? Total old-school spot!!!! A proper old-school grill house!!

Would you believe there's an old-school outdoor grill place like this right in the middle of Apgujeong Rodeo? It's even hidden behind wall lights, so you'd never imagine the atmosphere from outside!

Parking and Saturday evening waiting time at Yeontan Gongjang
Yeontan Gongjang offers valet parking. ₩5,000 an hour! This must be one of those spots only locals know — outside it's quiet, but inside it's packed! When I dropped off the car for valet around 6pm there were still outdoor seats, but by 6:40pm there was exactly one seat left? Saturday evening 6:40pm, and we barely avoided waiting.

This was actually my first time grilling meat on real charcoal~~ Full old-school vibes.

Pork wang-galbi at ₩19,000: three servings, pre-grilled before serving
✔️Pork wang-galbi (large pork ribs), ₩19,000 x 3. I'm dieting, so...^^ I was going to get beef ribs, but the owner said pork wang-galbi was the specialty, so we went with pork haha.

The pork wang-galbi comes pre-grilled once! I'd only had a light lunch and was so hungry... I wanted to dig into the pre-grilled ribs the second they arrived hahaha.

Ah, I'm obsessed! An old-school outdoor grill spot in Apgujeong Rodeo! I'm~ so happy~ I'm~ so happy~~ Looks like when it's not outdoor-dining season, they close the roof!

Pork wang-galbi is the specialty here, but they also serve pork belly and pork neck, so if you're looking for an outdoor pork belly spot in Apgujeong Rodeo, come here too~~~~ I'm a pretty good meat griller today too — you have to flip the pork ribs often so they don't burn! My boyfriend came straight from a wedding, so on an empty stomach he ended up eating 2 of the 3 servings of ribs haha.

Wang-sujebi at ₩23,000 and the rest of the menu at Yeontan Gongjang
✔️Wang-sujebi (large hand-torn dough soup), ₩23,000. They really have a ton of side dishes here too. Kimchi jjigae, doenjang jjigae, saury jjigae — all kinds of stews, and there was even some mysterious "MT jjigae" hahaha. They also have tons of golbaengi (sea snail salad) varieties, like Euljiro-style and Apguri-style, and the sujebi menu alone has wang-sujebi, regular sujebi, kimchi sujebi, wang-kaljebi and a whole bunch more! If you're looking for an outdoor drinking spot in Apgujeong Rodeo, come here too~~ the food pairs so well with drinks~~

I really love sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) ㅠ I ate a lot of meat too so I thought about skipping carbs, but all those sujebi varieties kept flashing in my mind so I ordered a wang-sujebi. Hand-torn dough, you guys!!!! Amazing ㅠㅠㅠ Passed with flying colors. The portion was huge and the dough was so chewy! There's so much food here that you could probably finish your whole night without needing a second stop haha.
Why Yeontan Gongjang works for a date night in Apgujeong Rodeo
Yeontan Gongjang showed up as an outdoor-dining spot I never expected to find in Apgujeong Rodeo! What made me even happier was that everyone — the young owner, the older owner, and the foreign staff — were all genuinely kind and clearly working hard even though it looked super busy ㅠ If you're looking for a pork belly spot in Apgujeong Rodeo, this is the one! Highly recommend. Bring someone here and you'll instantly look like an Apgujeong expert~~~
