In short

Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro is a sushi omakase restaurant on Baekbeom-ro 24-gil in Mapo, Seoul, near Gongdeok Station. With jazz and Oasis playing in the counter room, the lunch course ran from a zucchini and Korean melon kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup) starter through rice-straw smoked mackerel, striped horse mackerel, toro, sweet shrimp with uni, and golden eye snapper gimbap (seaweed rice roll). Because Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro welcomes both young children and pets, it is an easy choice for families and couples alike.

Hi everyone, it's blogger Gang. Today I'm introducing one of Seoul's great sushi restaurants, Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro (즐거운 마음으로).

When you hear "sushi omakase," you usually picture a calm, quiet, maybe even heavy atmosphere 🍣 but here jazz music mixed with Oasis classics gave the place a really emotional, atmospheric charm ✨

Where is Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro in Mapo?

Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro is a sushi omakase restaurant on the 1st floor of 21 Baekbeom-ro 24-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, near Gongdeok Station. It first opened this past May, and you can feel the chef's warmth throughout the space — he's a father raising two kids himself.

It even has a special story to go with it: young children and pets are both welcome inside 🐶👶💕

Seating: a 10-seat counter and 3 private rooms

The counter at Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro seats 10. It's a neat bar seating area where you can watch the chef's care and skill up close as you eat! Feeling that live performance in front of you made for a real visual treat too 🍵

Private rooms (3 of them): there are also three generous, cozy private rooms that can hold up to 15 people! They look perfect for group gatherings, family occasions, or company dinners where you can take your time over a sashimi course 🥂

What the lunch omakase course was like

Table setting of green tea, fresh wasabi, and braised burdock root

The table was set quietly with cool, clean green tea, sharp fresh wasabi, and burdock root braised in bonito soy sauce for deep umami. The salty, savory burdock gently woke up the appetite before the meal started 😋

Zucchini and Korean melon kongguksu starter

Zucchini and Korean melon kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup): instead of noodles, thinly sliced zucchini is used, topped gently with Korean melon and pine nuts — a truly original summer specialty! The nutty peanut aroma blends softly with the sweetness of the melon, so even people who aren't fans of kongguksu's usual beany smell can enjoy this perfect starter 🥒

A plate of flounder and monkfish liver

Flounder & monkfish liver: chewy flounder paired with rich, silky monkfish liver, topped with a touch of sharp wasabi — one bite and a wave of pleasant umami fills your mouth 🐟

Braised bloody octopus topped with yuzu zest

Braised bloody octopus: bloody octopus braised in soy sauce, finished with a sprinkle of yuzu zest on top. The soft texture plus the bright yuzu accent left a flavor that lingered nicely 🍋

Chawanmushi topped with mullet roe
Refreshing clam soup

Chawanmushi & clam soup: the steamed egg custard topped with mullet roe carried a gentle ocean fragrance, and the clam soup that followed had a deep, refreshing broth that warmed and settled the stomach 🥣

Sushi shaped with acidic sushi rice

The sushi rice here leans toward a stronger acidity, which cleanly balances the rich, fatty flavor characteristic of raw fish ✨

Preparing rice-straw smoked mackerel

Rice-straw smoked mackerel: mackerel aged in soy sauce, gently wrapped in the aroma of burning rice straw, served with a touch of hot mustard!

Taste the first piece plain, without sauce, and you can deeply savor that rich smoky aroma 🪵

A piece of nigiri from the lunch course
Squid sushi with sudachi citrus juice
Soy-marinated tuna sushi

The nigiri lineup, piece by piece

Tilefish / red seabream / squid with sudachi citrus juice / striped horse mackerel / soy-marinated tuna / fatty tuna belly

Fatty toro sushi

Toro!! The toro was so fatty, incredibly rich and full-flavored 😍

Sweet shrimp sushi piled with sea urchin uni

Sweet shrimp with sea urchin uni. The uni was completely fresh and piled on generously 😍

Striped horse mackerel sushi, the best piece of the meal

Best bite of the course: striped horse mackerel

Best piece (striped horse mackerel): not overly oily, with a moist, tender richness that melted together perfectly in the mouth — hands down the top piece of the meal 💖

A piece of grilled golden eye snapper gimbap
Close-up of the golden eye snapper maki

Grilled golden eye snapper gimbap (seaweed rice roll). The snapper was grilled just right and melted in the mouth.

Well-grilled sea eel sushi

Sea eel: the sea eel was well-grilled with a full seafood aroma, savory and packed with juice 💕

Meringue tamagoyaki and melon dessert

Dessert (meringue tamagoyaki & patterned melon): a sweet, almost castella-like tamagoyaki baked from egg white meringue, paired with a patterned melon the chef carefully selected for sweetness, brought the meal to a soft, gentle close 🍈

Who should book Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro?

At Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro, every single piece was made with such care and quality that it was hard to believe this was just a lunch course — it felt genuinely abundant. If you want to share a lovely meal set against warm, tasteful music, or spend a special, cozy time with a partner, a friend, or your child, I'd quietly recommend visiting without hesitation 🌿

Thanks to the thoughtful music choices and the course structure, both my mouth and ears stayed happy through the whole meal, and I think it'll stick in my memory for a long time. Even at lunchtime you really feel taken care of here, so if you love sushi, I hope you make time to visit at least once!
