Yuseong Korean restaurant with an 8-dish rice table: Jeonju House

In short

Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant on Oncheon-ro 101beon-gil in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, known for kimchi and side dishes the owner makes in-house. A Sunday visit around 5pm meant walking in with no wait, for the 8-dish basic rice table (8-cheop bansang) plus two servings of cast-iron-lid fresh pork belly, a 2,000 won doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and two orders of fried rice. The aged kimchi with fresh pork belly, and the fried rice finish, are what make Jeonju House worth the trip.

Today I visited Jeonju House (전주하우스), famous for its kimchi. Let's get right into the review!

📌 Address: 36 Oncheon-ro 101beon-gil, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, South Korea, 1st floor

What does Jeonju House look like from the street?

Jeonju House sits down an alley off Oncheon-ro 101beon-gil in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, and the building exterior alone gives off serious old-school-favorite energy. There are onggi (earthenware jars) absolutely everywhere, so it felt like showing up at a countryside grandmother's house~

Jeonju House menu prices and where the kimchi comes from

Here's the Jeonju House menu board and origin-labeling sign, take a look at the photos! These days so much kimchi is Chinese-made, but at Jeonju House the owner makes her own kimchi, apparently~ And it's not just the kimchi — the side dishes, kimchi stew, and hot pot are all the same. Just so you know!!

Table utensil holder with wet wipes included

Spoons and chopsticks are set out at every table like this, and there are even wet wipes tucked inside the compartment, so I thought it was such a thoughtful, hygienic touch..🩷

The basic 8-side rice table spread

What comes with the 8-dish rice table at Jeonju House?

The basic side dishes at Jeonju House come out as this generous 8-side rice table! It's rare to be treated to water service this fancy, so it honestly felt like being pampered haha. And since the owner makes everything herself, it was seriously delicious😋

Cast-iron-lid fresh pork belly with aged kimchi

Today I went with the cast-iron-lid fresh pork belly at Jeonju House, and the quality of the meat is genuinely on another level. It's just not comparable to your average pork belly place, the quality is that good and it just melts in your mouth,,🤤🤍 The bowl that comes with the cast-iron lid is big so the portion might look small, but honestly it was plenty.

The aged kimchi served alongside was perfect for a bite whenever the meat got a bit much, resetting your palate. And the harmony between the aged kimchi and fresh pork belly is genuinely.. ridiculously good. Honestly, personally, I liked this place even more than dedicated cast-iron-lid pork belly restaurants☺️

A stone bowl of the ₩2,000 doenjang stew

Is the 2,000 won doenjang stew any good?

The high-quality doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) at Jeonju House is only ₩2,000!! This is absolutely not a lazily-thrown-together taste — it's genuinely got that cheonggukjang-like depth? Ugh, how do I put it ㅜㅜ It's different from the doenjang stew you get at pork belly places, more like the really well-made version you'd get at someone's home. So delicious — this flavor at this price is just not right,,👍

Why you should order the fried rice finish

In the end it was all so good we couldn't stop, so we ordered fried rice too and cleaned that up as well. Everyone, you absolutely have to get the fried rice, seriously wow,,, you really have to try it to understand. The flavor is so well balanced and it wraps up the whole meal perfectly👏👏

So here's what we ended up ordering today.

  • Fresh pork belly x2
  • Doenjang stew x1
  • Rice x1
  • Fried rice x2
  • Soju x1
  • Cider x1

I definitely didn't plan on eating this much... but it was so good we just kept adding more orders haha.

Coffee station and CatchTable waiting kiosk by the entrance

Was there a wait at Jeonju House at 5pm on Sunday?

I visited Jeonju House around 5pm on a Sunday and got in with no wait, though I've seen reviews mentioning a wait at other times. On the right as you enter (left as you leave), there's a coffee station and a CatchTable waiting kiosk.

This was a Korean restaurant worth waiting for😋👍 If you're visiting Daejeon, or heading to Yuseong, I'd strongly recommend stopping by here.

Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant on Oncheon-ro in Yuseong, Daejeon, loved for its generous full-table spreads and home-cooked-style dishes made with care. It's especially known for the large, thick rolled egg omelette served alongside a variety of Korean dishes, making for a filling meal. With everything cooked fresh in-house and served hot, generous portions, and a comfortable atmosphere, it's a great place to visit alone, with family, or with friends without any hesitation.
