Euljiro 1-ga snack bar with crispy squid fritters: Hyeonseoni-ne
In short
Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch is an instant tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cake) and snack bar on Namdaemun-ro, right beside Exit 3 of Euljiro 1-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. The Hyeonseoni Combo Set (₩25,000), ordered at medium spice and taken home, comes with tteokbokki, sundae (blood sausage), fried snacks, gimbap (seaweed rice roll) and fish cake; the wheat rice cakes were chewy and the squid fritters were the best of the fried plate. Hyeonseoni-ne is a good-value snack spread before or after a walk along Cheonggyecheon.

What the inside of Hyeonseoni-ne looks like

The interior of Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch was really tidy. It has a comfortable vibe, good for lunch breaks or unwinding with coworkers after work, which is why office workers in the Cheonggyecheon area keep coming back.

What comes in the ₩25,000 Hyeonseoni Combo Set takeout
I ordered the Hyeonseoni Combo Set, the full package with tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, gimbap and fish cake all included! I wanted to eat at home so I got it packed to go, and they wrapped it so neatly that everything made it home safe haha.

Ta-da! Here's the Hyeonseoni Combo Set eaten at home.

How the medium-spice tteokbokki tastes
The color on this tteokbokki is insane, right? The chewy, soft wheat rice cakes had the spicy-sweet, rich sauce soaked all the way through. I went with medium spice, and it had a pleasantly tingly, savory kick.

Dipping the fried snacks in it — savory ATTACK!

Handmade sundae and fish cake in the combo set
The sundae (blood sausage) had no gamey smell at all, steamed to a chewy, moist texture — excellent. It's delicious just dipped in salt, and even better soaked in the rich tteokbokki sauce, so good! The fish cake had a deep, hot broth and a springy bite, wrapping up the full snack package on a comforting note.

Assorted fried snacks: why the squid fritters win
The fried snacks were freshly fried, still audibly crisp when you bite in. The savory batter soaks up the spicy tteokbokki sauce for a perfect balance, and honestly the squid was the best of the bunch!!

The gimbap (seaweed rice roll) was packed with fresh fillings, and biting into it right as the spice from the tteokbokki builds up works perfectly to mellow it out.
Who Hyeonseoni-ne is a good fit for
Hyeonseoni-ne, this Euljiro 1-ga Station snack bar, is a strong pick if you want classic, chewy tteokbokki right by the station. Whether it's a date course before or after a Cheonggyecheon walk, or you just want a filling, good-value snack meal, you won't regret stopping by!!~
