Japanese anime posters are up on the walls, and with the wood tones and soft lighting, it's got that Japanese izakaya feel down to a tee ~

By the window, they keep the doors wide open, so even sitting indoors you get a nice breeze — proper patio vibes!

Since we came for the yakitori in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju, this time we ordered one of each skewer we were curious about haha. Being able to order just one of each is great for trying several different cuts!

Shrimp chips and cabbage salad come out as basic side dishes! And the water is a nutty barley water 👍🏻

Cups, a bottle opener, soy sauce, sansho pepper, shichimi — everything you need is already set up on every table!

First round: Sapporo draft beer, 5,500 won

First drink was, of course, Sapporo draft 🍺 ₩5,500. The draft here is genuinely delicious .. the foam is so soft and it goes down so smooth that the first glass disappeared instantly haha

The food came out faster than expected too. With several skewers plus the napolitan arriving together, the table filled right up

This is the season to enjoy the patio ~ the atmosphere was really great at Sutori, the bar in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju

Skewer spread on the table amid the patio atmosphere

Skewer by skewer: chicken skin, rump, skirt steak, knee cartilage

First up, the skin skewer! Whenever I come for yakitori I always end up ordering skin haha. The outside is slightly crispy, chewy when you bite in, and nutty — pairs so well with beer

Next, the thigh skewer! Cute name to start haha. The meat is thick and tender, no dry feeling at all, and really tasty — the seasoning is well-salted too, an absolute perfect drinking snack!

Dip it into the mayo that comes alongside and it's even better, with that extra nuttiness ••

The skirt steak had thick-cut meat but wasn't tough, easy to eat, and the knee cartilage's standout feature was its crunchy texture. If you like a crunchy, chewy texture, you'll really love it :)

Skewers gone cold? Add a charcoal warmer from the tablet

At Sutori, if your skewers start to cool down while you're eating, you can add a charcoal warmer right from the tablet! They bring it out right away when you order, and it means you can eat everything warm to the very end haha. This little touch of service is the best 🖤

Hamburg napolitan, 15,900 won: how big is the portion?

Hambagu napolitan! The portion of pasta was no joke ,, ₩15,900 but way more generous than I expected, enough for several people to share

A generous plate of hambagu napolitan

Sausage is piled in generously too, and eating the sausage together with the tangy napolitan works so well. The tomato flavor isn't too heavy, has a slight tang, and is good for taking a bite between skewers

When you're craving carbs, hambagu napolitan is exactly the move! The noodle portion is generous, and with the hamburg steak and sausage included, it was way more filling than I expected haha

Is Sutori Cheongju Bongmyeong Branch worth a visit?

My partner kept raving about the draft beer being amazing ,, and ended up having three glasses, a bit of an overdrinking situation lol. The patio-like atmosphere is great and the food menu is varied, so Sutori keeps becoming the place we default to for round two in Bongmyeong-dong haha. If you're looking for a bar with great atmosphere in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju, or a spot known for good food to go with drinks, I recommend it!
