Suwon bar for persimmon liquor and seaweed cream pasta: Ryu-eun

This is a common experience for me 👣 I visited Ryu-eun, a fusion Korean bar in Haenggung-dong where you can enjoy traditional liquors and fusion anju (drinking snacks) in a quiet, cozy atmosphere!

Ryu-eun's hours and location in Haenggung-dong

Ryu-eun is located at 38-9 Sinpungno 23beon-gil, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea, on floors 1 and 2. It's open Tue, Wed, Thu, Sun 17:00–23:30, Fridays 17:00–01:00, and Saturdays 16:00–01:00, with Mondays as the regular day off.

Ryu-eun is made up of two floors, and the ground floor also has outdoor tables you can enjoy! It's basically a yajang (outdoor drinking spot) 〰️

Is Ryu-eun a good spot for a Haenggung-dong date?

Ryu-eun's overall atmosphere is quiet and cozy, so it's great not just for dates with a partner but also for pre-wedding gatherings or catching up with friends you haven't seen in a while 〰️

It seemed especially suited to people looking for a place to comfortably chat over drinks and snacks, rather than a loud, bustling spot.

What's on the menu at Ryu-eun

There's a wide variety of anju too. True to a Korean-style bar, the menu is centered around Korean dishes, with plenty of options that go well with drinks.

There's also a wide range of traditional liquors, so it's fun to pick a drink that matches your taste alongside the food!

The complimentary starter (gibon anju)

The basic anju was a crispy snack that looked like tofu crackers (?). I kept picking at them one by one — they were subtly sweet and nutty, so my hand kept reaching for more!

They were a nice light bite before the main dishes arrived, fun to nibble on one at a time with a drink 〰️

Dangam myeongjak, a sweet persimmon liquor

It was my first time trying sweet persimmon liquor, and it tasted better than expected! A taste even lightweight drinkers could handle 〰️

Ryu-eun has a lot of traditional liquors, so if you like them, keep this place in mind!

Gamtae (seaweed) cream pasta

The look was amazing! The noodles were flat like kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), sprinkled with gamtae (seaweed), and the nutty cream aroma was really good.

It was barely seasoned, so it really did taste like literally pasta paired with cream sauce — mild and plain!

So it might feel a bit bland at first. Luckily, the other dish we ordered was very salty, so alternating between the two naturally balanced the seasoning haha

There were big pinecone-shaped pieces of squid in it. They were large, so the chewy texture was great 👍

Mala woo-samgyeop and mung bean sprout stir-fry

This dish was seriously so good 〰️ It had a bit of a mala xiang guo vibe, and anyone who likes mala flavors will definitely love it!

I want to eat it again... (drooling) 🤤 The umami hit right after the first bite, making it the perfect drinking snack!

It was salty and appetite-inducing, great with drinks, and also worked well as one dish among several ordered to share bite by bite.

Ryu-eun in summary

If you're looking for a bar or traditional liquor spot with good atmosphere in Haenggung-dong, I recommend Ryu-eun :)

The quiet, cozy atmosphere made it a nice place to sit and chat with a partner, and being able to enjoy a variety of traditional liquors alongside fusion Korean anju made it well suited to a date course too.
