Sejong hot pot restaurant with free broth refills: Chung-sil Hoegwan

In short

Chung-sil Hoegwan is a pork belly and galbi kimchi hot pot restaurant in Hansol-dong, Sejong. The writer came with her mother and ordered the galbi kimchi jeongol (short rib kimchi hot pot) for two at 15,000 won per person, sotbap (pot rice) included, and found that single portions are served, ramen noodles are added free and the broth is refilled at no charge. The broth is rich without being heavy and the sotbap is generous enough to finish the nurungji (toasted rice crust), so she booked a return visit before leaving.

Chung-sil Hoegwan's signature galbi kimchi jeongol

Do you all like kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew)???? I really, really love pork-loaded kimchi jjigae, eating the meat and kimchi with hot rice, and then dropping in ramen sari noodles to cook until just chewy!!!

At Chung-sil Hoegwan, ordering kimchi jjigae comes with rice served as sotbap (hot stone-pot rice), and free ramen sari noodles too!! I visited with my mom and it was so good I booked a regular reservation — let me introduce this Sejong lunch spot right nowㅎㅎㅎㅎ

Is Chung-sil Hoegwan good for groups and work dinners?

The interior of Chung-sil Hoegwan is really spacious, so it seemed perfect for Sejong group gatherings, company dinners, and family get-togethers!!

The tables were big and spaced well apart, so it was also a great Sejong meat restaurant for eating privately with your own group ㅎㅎ I immediately understood why it's known as a famous samgyeopsal place in Hansol-dong.

Can you order the galbi kimchi hot pot for one person?

I ordered galbi kimchi jeongol (with sotbap) for two, at ₩15,000 per person ㅎㅎ Some other places require a minimum of two orders for kimchi jeongol, but this Sejong kimchi jjigae spot, Chung-sil Hoegwan, lets you order just one serving too, which was so convenient!!

A spread of basic side dishes including cheongyang chili bean sprouts

The basic side dishes all looked appetizing too — the bean sprouts had cheongyang chili in them, spicy just the way I like ㅎㅎ

Various side dishes laid out at the self-bar

What is on the self-service side dish bar?

There's a self-bar on one side where you can freely take whatever side dishes you want, and none of them were too salty, which paired nicely with the Sejong kimchi jeongol ㅎㅎ

Free ramen noodles with the hot pot

What I especially love about Chung-sil Hoegwan is that they give you free ramen sari noodles ㅠㅜㅠㅠ Honestly, ramen noodles are a must when eating Sejong kimchi jjigae!!!!!! The owner really has great taste ㅎㅎㅎ

Sign noting galbi kimchi jeongol is sold out

When I visited, around 8:30 pm the galbi kimchi jeongol stopped taking orders because ingredients ran out ㅎㅎㅎ Definitely a place known for its Sejong lunch business!!

How does the galbi kimchi hot pot taste?

When my galbi kimchi jeongol arrived, it was loaded with meat and generously filled with well-fermented kimchi, and I thought 'this quality at this price?!' ㅎㅎ

The broth was rich but never heavy, refreshing enough to go great with a shot of soju!!!!! It was also packed with enoki mushrooms, tofu, and green onions — I ordered two servings but it felt like three..ㅎ

"Eighty percent ingredients, twenty percent craft" — good food starts with good ingredients

Knowing this is the owner's philosophy behind the galbi kimchi jeongol, I could really taste the care put into the dish.

The broth of the kimchi jeongol thickened as it cooked

As it kept simmering while we ate, the broth got richer and richer, which I loved, and when the broth ran low they refilled it for us ㅎㅎ

The sotbap served alongside the stew

How much sotbap and nurungji you get

And the sotbap that comes with it is such a huge portion..! I filled my rice bowl full, and then later made nurungji (scorched rice) with the rest — it felt like eating two servings of rice...ㅎㅎ

A rice bowl piled high with sotbap rice

The meat wasn't dry at all, so tender to eat, and true to a good Sejong kimchi jjigae spot, there was no gamey smell from the meat ㅎㅎ

Just as we were finishing, they brought over the sari noodles and added them in — I was really, really full already.....? Galbi kimchi jeongol + sari noodles = heaven..💕 We ate every last bit ㅎㅎ

I finished a whole bowl of rice, cleaned out all the ramen noodles, and it was so delicious I ate the nurungji too...ㅎ

Is Chung-sil Hoegwan worth going back to?

If you're looking for a Sejong kimchi jjigae spot, head straight to Chung-sil Hoegwan! The owner was so kind and the food was so good that I'm planning to go back next time for the famous Hansol-dong samgyeopsal.

The nurungji portion is really generous too ㅎㅎ You should definitely visit!!
