Bun cha restaurant in Naseong-dong, Sejong: Mekong Thai brisket pho

In short

Mekong Thai Sejong Naseong Branch is a Vietnamese and Thai restaurant on the 2nd floor of the NS Building at 133-9 Naseong-ro in Sejong, an easy drive from the National Sejong Arboretum and Sejong Lake Park and a natural dinner stop after an afternoon out. On a weekend evening with a friend, the order was a large beef brisket pho and bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles), and the beef broth came out clear and free of grease, with a nuoc mam sauce that was never overdone. For pho that won't divide opinion and a well-made bun cha, Mekong Thai Sejong Naseong Branch is worth recommending.

Dinner after the National Sejong Arboretum and Sejong Lake Park

On a weekend evening, my friend and I headed to Mekong Thai Sejong Naseong Branch wanting a light but satisfying Asian meal. It's a short drive from the National Sejong Arboretum and Sejong Lake Park, so the route made it very easy to follow up a leisurely afternoon outing or date with dinner. We parked comfortably in the building's basement lot and found the restaurant right away on the 2nd floor.

What the dining room is like on a weekend evening with kids around

Arriving during the weekend dinner rush, the place was already buzzing with customers. With plenty of high chairs and generous spacing between tables, quite a few families with young kids out for a weekend meal stood out.

The interior had high ceilings that kept the sightlines from feeling cramped, with a cozy window-side line in the main hall as well as a separate space suited to group gatherings — altogether a pleasant setting.

Large beef brisket pho: how clear and mild is the broth?

We ordered easily using the QR code at each table, selecting options right from our phones. That day, my friend and I picked the large-size beef brisket pho (dae) for something filling, and bun cha (Vietnamese grilled pork with vermicelli) for something fresh to wake up the appetite.

The large beef brisket pho arrived shortly after, served in a hefty, wide bowl brimming with noodles — the generous portion caught my eye right away.

Taking a first spoonful of broth, I could tell it would be easy to enjoy even for someone unused to the strong spices of authentic Southeast Asian cooking — clean, deep beef umami without any harshness. The broth was clear and fat-free, gently settling the stomach, and the generous slices of brisket were tender along the grain, never dry.

The rice noodles were cooked just right, not mushy, and adding a heap of the free crunchy bean sprouts we'd requested made for a wonderful contrast in texture.

How tangy is the nuoc mam sauce with the bun cha?

The bun cha that followed exceeded expectations. On a wide plate sat thin, chewy vermicelli noodles, crisp fresh salad greens, char-grilled pork with a subtle smoky aroma, and golden, crispy fried spring rolls (cha gio), all neatly arranged.

The nuoc mam dipping sauce that makes or breaks a bun cha wasn't overly sharp or too sour — it struck a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and salty.

Sometimes bun cha elsewhere gets too sour or too sweet and grows tiresome quickly, but this sauce had a subtle yet deep savoriness without excess, so it stayed refreshing right through the last bite.

Dunking the smoky, juicy pork, the crispy spring rolls, and the vegetables with the noodles into the sauce made for a combination that kept my mouth feeling fresh and full throughout — I understood exactly why it's a signature recommendation.

How was the service on a busy weekend evening?

Even on a busy, crowded weekend evening, orders came out quickly and staff handled everything smoothly, letting us finish our meal comfortably.

If you're near the Sejong Arboretum or Lake Park and want clean, crowd-pleasing pho and a well-made bun cha in a comfortable setting, I'd recommend this place without hesitation.
