Gangneung rainy-day café with indoor window seats and juice: Baegya
In short
Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café with floors 1 through 4 on the coastal road facing Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon. On the rainy last day of a trip, the writer and her child took an indoor seat by the floor-to-ceiling windows for bread, cake and coffee, while the child chose a juice. The terrace at Baegya Coffee is a no-kids zone, but the sea view from indoors is still wide open, making it a solid rainy-day indoor stop in Gangneung.

It rained on the last day of our Gangneung trip, which was a bit of a bummer.😭 I wanted to see more of the sea, but outdoor plans felt iffy, and just heading home felt like a waste. So as our final stop, we went to Baegya Coffee, an ocean-view café near Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung.
Bottom line: I was glad we came on a rainy day :) The Gangneung sea filled the view through the huge glass windows, and even on a cloudy day it had a certain atmosphere. Warm coffee and dessert while nursing the bittersweet feeling of the last day of the trip — worked perfectly.
Where is Baegya Coffee, and what is on each floor?

Baegya Coffee is located at 607 Haean-ro in Gangneung. Right in front of Sageunjin Beach, it's a convenient stop while sightseeing along the Gangneung coast, and it turned out to be a pretty large bakery café.

You order, pick up and return trays on the 1st floor, then head upstairs. The building had clear signage: 1F is Bakery & Cafe, 2F is NIGHT, 3F is WHITE, and 4F is the rooftop.

Each floor has its own space, so there's quite a lot of seating overall, and the whole place feels spacious and comfortable!
The Gangneung ocean view through Baegya Coffee's floor-to-ceiling windows

What I liked most about Baegya Coffee was, of course, the view. The huge glass windows mean you can see the sea in full while sitting and sipping your coffee. With just one road between the café and the beach, sitting by the window really made me feel like I was on a trip.
It rained that day so we didn't get the clear blue sky, but watching the gray sea from the warm indoors had its own atmosphere too.
I think photos would come out really pretty on a sunny day too. If you're not sure where to go on a cloudy day during a Gangneung trip, dropping by an ocean-view café like this isn't a bad idea at all.
Is Baegya Coffee comfortable to visit with a child?

We visited with our child, and the indoor area at Baegya Coffee was fine for kids. The place is quite spacious with generous spacing between tables, so it was comfortable sitting there with our little one.
That said, some outdoor spaces like the terrace are run as no-kids zones. Since these outdoor spaces are on higher floors, I figured it's probably for safety reasons. Still, you don't have to give up the ocean view just because you're with a child — the indoor floor-to-ceiling windows offer a wide-open sea view too.
Bread, cake and coffee at Baegya Coffee

Baegya Coffee had a pretty wide variety of bakery items too.

The 1st-floor display case was full of bread, and so many of them looked so good it was hard to just walk past haha. We picked out some bread and cake, and both were delicious.
Especially since the coffee was good too, this wasn't just a big café with a good view — the bakery and drinks were satisfying overall as well. Besides coffee, there were plenty of options like lattes, ades, tea and ice cream, which made it a good place for a family visit.
Oksigi corn ice cream: the one to try next time

Honestly, the menu item I most wanted to try was Baegya Coffee's signature Oksigi ice cream! It was featured prominently on the in-store screen, and apparently it's an ice cream that brings out the sweet, nutty flavor of chodang corn (a sweet corn variety) — sounded like the perfect thing to eat in Gangneung.
But since our child had a slight cold that day, we held off on ice cream and went with juice instead. There was a good variety of bottled drinks and juices too, so it was easy to pick something for the kid to drink. Next time I come back to Baegya Coffee, I'm definitely starting with the Oksigi ice cream :)
A rainy last day in Gangneung, turned around at Baegya Coffee

It rained on the last day of the trip, and honestly I felt pretty disappointed about it. But with a warm cup of coffee, tasty bread and cake, and the sea view through the glass, it really did reset my mood.
Whether the weather is nice or rainy, you can enjoy the sea's mood either way, which made this a nice place to rest during a Gangneung trip. If you're looking for a spacious café near Sageunjin Beach or Gyeongpodae, want somewhere comfortable to stay indoors with a child, or just want to enjoy coffee and bakery items while looking out at the sea, this ocean-view café in Gangneung, Baegya Coffee, is worth a stop.
I'm already thinking about visiting again on my next Gangneung trip, if only for the Oksigi ice cream I missed this time :)
