Late-evening Gangneung café for milk tank bread: Baegya Coffee

In short

Baegya Coffee is a four-floor, large-scale ocean-view bakery café on Haean-ro in front of Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung. Arriving close to closing time, we had the milk tank bread (8.0) and fig campagne (7.0) with iced milk tea and chamomile at a window seat in the 3rd-floor WHITE space, watching the sun set over the water. If you want an ocean-view café quieter than the Anmok Beach café street, Baegya Coffee is the answer.

Whenever I go to the sea, I make a point of visiting an ocean-view café. Something about wanting to keep looking at a view you don't get to see every day, haha!

But even when I go to an ocean-view café, I prefer somewhere quieter than the café street at Anmok Beach. That's how I found Baegya Coffee, an ocean-view café in Gangneung near Sageunjin Beach — a huge four-floor bakery café! Let's get into today's honest café review!

Where is Baegya Coffee, and what are its hours and parking?

Baegya Coffee is at 607 Haean-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon, right in front of Sageunjin Beach. It's open daily from 09:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:30.

  • Public transit: KTX Gangneung Station or Gangneung intercity/express bus terminal — take bus 202-1 — get off at Gyeongpo Beach — 15 min walk

There's a large dedicated parking lot right in front of Baegya Coffee, or up on the hill at the 2nd-floor level. If it's full, you can use the public Sageunjin Beach parking lot across the street.

What is on each floor of Baegya Coffee?

  • 1F: order/pickup, bakery
  • 2F NIGHT & 3F WHITE tables & terrace (no-kids zone) / restrooms
  • 4F rooftop & sky stairs (no-kids zone)

The 1st floor has the order/return counter, the bakery, and tables. It's a wide, open space, kept neat and clean.

What bread does the Baegya Coffee bakery have?

I was curious about Baegya's signature corn ice cream, but this time I decided to focus on the bread..!

Since I visited close to closing time, the bread selection was relatively small, but there were still various bakery items like tarts, twisted doughnuts, tortillas, and salt bread.

Pressing the button on the left opens a sort of bread window so you can pick your bread. (Mine didn't open, so I fumbled around for a while, haha!)

Financiers, muffins, scones, even butter pound cake — every dessert type I know seems to be at Baegya Coffee!

And even juice and jam..!

There's an elevator on every floor, so getting around was easy. Oh, and a Baegya Coffee Gangneung Station branch has apparently just opened. If you're coming from Gangneung Station, be sure to check it out too.

2F NIGHT or 3F WHITE: where should you sit at Baegya Coffee?

The 2nd-floor NIGHT space has a calm atmosphere with seats facing the ocean view, great for taking in the sea. That view through the floor-to-ceiling windows — that's exactly why we come to ocean-view cafés!

Most of the seats at Baegya Coffee aren't stiff or hard, so it was comfortable to stay a while. Both the 2nd and 3rd floors have terraces and restrooms! There are baby chairs too, so it looked good for coming with a baby.

The 3rd-floor WHITE space stands out with a bright atmosphere that contrasts with the 2nd-floor NIGHT space. Personally, I found the 3rd floor cozier, so that's where I settled in. Honestly, the phone charger being on the 3rd floor also played a part, haha.

Sunset from the Baegya Coffee terrace and the no-kids zone

You can't skip the terrace, right?! Thanks to Baegya Coffee, I got to take in a sea view full of sunset colors. Shall we admire it for a moment? Oh, and by the way — the terrace is a no-kids zone, probably for safety reasons!

The 4th-floor rooftop and sky stairs are where Sageunjin Beach is best seen under the open sky. With the sky stairs and photo zone, this is a must if you've come to Baegya Coffee! I'm saving the rooftop for next time :)

What we ordered at Baegya Coffee: milk tank bread, fig campagne, milk tea, chamomile

  • Milk tank bread 8.0
  • Fig campagne 7.0
  • Milk tea (ICE) 6.8
  • Chamomile (ICE) 6.0

Sat down by the ocean-view window for a photo! Maybe it's the pretty background, but even the bread and drinks look more delicious..!

1. Milk tank bread (8.0)

I actually thought it was garlic bread when I picked it, but the milk tank bread was full of milk cream, sweet and soft. It came pre-cut, so it was easy to eat too.

2. Fig campagne (7.0)

The campagne was hard and a bit of a struggle to cut, but once I saw the inside packed with cheese and figs, I couldn't stop reaching for it. The balance of mild and sweet flavors made this my personal pick!

3. Iced milk tea (6.8) and iced chamomile (6.0)

I always go for milk tea. But this time, the chamomile actually went really well with the bread. Since most of the bread was on the sweet side, the chamomile balanced it out.

Is Baegya Coffee in Gangneung worth a visit?

I've been to many ocean-view cafés in Gangneung, but it had been a while since I found one where every single space felt like it existed purely for the sea. Thanks to that, I had a great time in Gangneung for both my eyes and my mouth :)

If you're looking for a quiet, large bakery café near Sageunjin Beach, I strongly recommend Baegya Coffee, an ocean-view café in Gangneung.
