Gangnam café fig cream cake and terraces: Something About Coffee

In short

Something About Coffee is a three-floor café in Gangnam, Seoul, tucked into the alley behind Gangnam Station CGV. I tried the fig fresh-cream cake, egg cookie, and matcha cream cold brew, then looked around its roomy floors and terraces. The soft, nutty cream on the fig cake was the standout—highly recommended for desserts, studying, or terrace time.

A huge three-floor café in a Gangnam Station alley

Something About Coffee café information image

The hours were the same every day: 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

It is in the alley behind the CGV by Gangnam Station. It is easy to get to from the station, and it is in an area with lots of foot traffic, so visiting was convenient!

Store exterior

Can you believe this whole thing in a Gangnam alley is one café? It has been a while since I visited such a massive, nice-vibes café... People were constantly coming and going, so I thought, ah, it was already famous—I was just the only one who did not know.

Something About Coffee has that vibe of a café that must know coffee really, really well.

A quiet first floor, with the counter upstairs

Usually, the counter greets you as soon as you enter a café, right? This place was different. The moment I walked in, there was a calm study-café atmosphere, and I had to go up to the second floor to find the counter. The first floor felt the quietest!

Up on the second floor, I could buy and enjoy a variety of desserts and menu items.

Second-floor seating and the bustling counter

There was seating for groups, so you could visit with all sorts of party sizes. It was a great spot for studying, chatting, or going on a dessert tour.

Busy space around the café counter

Since it is such a popular café, the counter was incredibly busy.

The restrooms had these cool green doors. Having restrooms on every floor felt like a huge plus for convenience.

Taking a break on the third-floor terrace

Water was ready as soon as I went up to the third floor. No need to go all the way to the counter just to get water. But you do need to return trays to the second-floor counter.

There was terrace seating on the second floor too, but the third floor also had it. On a nice day like this, it would be lovely to head out and relax. Photos come out well, and it seems perfect for reading in the cool breeze—such a happy atmosphere.

The space itself was large but still cozy? The clean interior photographs well and makes for a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy.

A terrace to enjoy in Gangnam is just so good!!!!

How nice is it that every floor has a space like this to enjoy... As long as the weather is good, I think I would always prefer being outside!

Desserts that are hard to choose from

Signature drink menu at the café

These are the signature drinks.

These were the peach cake and fig cake that I debated over until the very end! I am saying this after eating here, but the cream is nutty and milky, with a flavor you can really savor.

Even baked-goods desserts~

It is totally dessert heaven, right?

I took a quick video of the cakes on display. Every single one looked so delicious that I got serious decision paralysis over what to choose ㅠㅠ

I also filmed the baked desserts all around. They smelled incredible, like freshly baked bread, and their appearance was just as swoon-worthy ㅠㅠ

What I ordered

  • Americano ₩6,500
  • Matcha cream cold brew ₩7,500
  • Egg cookie ₩5,900
  • Fig fresh-cream cake ₩9,800

I chose with difficulty. I ordered four things: an iced Americano so my mouth would not get too sweet after the desserts, plus the matcha cream cold brew, egg cookie, and fig fresh-cream cake.

Full spread of ordered drinks and desserts

Our desserts arrived in this big spread. It did not take long at all, so I brought everything upstairs shortly after ordering.

The fig cake was such an instant eye-catcher, so let me start with that?

Fig fresh-cream cake
Cake packed with cream and figs

It is hard to resist when seasonal figs are piled on top, right? Visually, it passed immediately haha. Thick, creamy frosting covered even the sides, and big pieces of fig were packed all around them too. Every bite felt like it filled my mouth? Such a generously built cake!! ㅠㅠ

The second I took a bite, my eyes went wide and I immediately devoured it. This place really does cake well. You know that feeling when fresh cream is not overly sweet or heavy, but soft and nutty? It was exactly that. If they sell whole cakes too, it was the kind of flavor I would order immediately.

Egg cookie with an egg-tart-like flavor

This one also caught my eye, so I ordered it right away, and it was much tastier than expected. It was like an egg tart, but a cookie... you know what I mean? The nutty flavor came through strongly, with a crisp outside and moist inside. It paired so well that it made for a fun change of pace: cake, cookie, then cake again!

Seriously nutty, and the baked exterior was insane... The textbook crisp-outside, moist-inside treat.

The iced Americano goes without saying... At a place so focused on coffee, it could hardly be bad, and it was nutty and richly flavored.

Next was the matcha cream cold brew I had been curious about. With a name like that, it would be hard for it to be bad. Personally, it was my first time trying matcha and cold brew together, so I was so curious—and what do you know... they went together perfectly without feeling mismatched at all.

The cold brew completely cut through the excessive sweetness you can get in something like a matcha latte, making it feel like a very rich latte. The cream-like topping added a nutty, milky flavor too, and it was so good.

The photos came out amazingly well too. In the end, I put together such a satisfying spread haha.

With delicious desserts, a spacious setting, and terraces too, this is the kind of place where you would be very satisfied no matter what you came to do! I especially loved the fig fresh-cream cake, so I am planning to come back for it haha. Highly recommended.
