In short
Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom is a pork makchang (grilled pork intestines) restaurant near exit 12 of Bujeon Station in Seomyeon, Busan. The order was two servings of raw pork makchang, two servings of seasoned pork makchang and gaeguri ramyeon: the makchang arrives pre-grilled with no gamy smell, nutty outside and springy inside, and the tangy scallion salad with soy sauce cuts the richness, with odeng (fish cake) soup included free. I had plans for dinner and was trying to figure out what to eat when I suddenly craved makchang (grilled pork intestines). It had been a while since I'd had it, and with the weather warming up, it's finally the season for grilling over a flame again haha. That's when I headed to a Seomyeon makchang favorite, Taeyeong Saengmakchang. It just opened recently as a fresh new spot in Seomyeon, so the place was spotless and the owner was super friendly ✨

Where is Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom, and where do you park?
This Seomyeon makchang spot is close to exit 12 of Bujeon Station or Jeonpo Elementary School. There's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to use a nearby paid lot. The closest one is 'Lucky Parking Lot' [392-32 Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan]. Since I planned to have a drink with my makchang, I just walked over 🙄

The outdoor-table atmosphere at this Seomyeon makchang bar
This is the interior of Taeyeong Saengmakchang, a Seomyeon makchang favorite. Despite being a makchang joint, there was no hazy smoke or smell at all — it felt really clean. One side has a night-market food-stall vibe thanks to the paintings and lighting, while the other side feels like a sleek, polished restaurant, so even within the same space the mood shifts quite a bit.

The inner seats especially have the doors wide open, so you can really feel that outdoor night-market atmosphere. If you're looking for a Seomyeon outdoor-style bar, this would be right up your alley!

How to order both raw and seasoned makchang
We ordered 2 servings of pork raw makchang and 2 servings of pork seasoned makchang. They said if you want to mix flavors, you need to order 2 servings of each, so keep that in mind!

After ordering, another table pre-grilled it first before bringing it over to us! Thanks to that pre-grilling step, our own grilling time was way shorter and we could basically dig in right away — so convenient. Maybe because it was grilled by an expert's hand, it just tasted even better, ugh...

Scallion salad, makjang, soy sauce and the free side dishes
The side dishes were clean and well put together too. Pickles, radish wraps, scallion salad and more came out to pair with the makchang, and out of all of them, the scallion salad was my favorite.

With its crunchy texture and tangy seasoning, it completely cut through the richness of the makchang. It barely had any spice either, so even a spice wimp like me could keep picking at it without worry — the combo of one bite of makchang, one chopstick of scallion salad was seriously great 👍

For sauces, we got the classic makchang pairing of makjang (seasoned bean paste) and soy sauce, which you can add scallions and chili peppers to as you like. I loaded mine up with chili and scallions. The chili turned out spicier than expected and caught me a bit off guard, but thanks to that heat, I think I managed to eat all the way through the makchang without losing steam.

The odeng (fish cake) soup that comes with every order
At this Bujeon-dong favorite, they give you a piping hot odeng (fish cake) soup as a free side. It's packed with fish cakes and the broth has great depth, so I kept reaching for it! Having a hot soup like this on cool days these days just puts you in a great mood haha.

For something given as a complimentary side, the portion and flavor were amazing, and it made a great drinking snack too ✨ There was so much fish cake in there, haha, I kept scooping it out and more kept appearing.
What does the raw pork makchang taste like?
The pork raw makchang came out pre-grilled to a nice golden brown, so you just need to grill it a little more before eating. Hearing it sizzle away on the grill just made me even hungrier, ugh.

I tried a properly cooked piece of makchang and there was zero gamy smell! The outside was golden and savory, and the inside was chewy with great texture. It wasn't too tough or too mushy — just the right chew, and the more you chewed, the more the savory flavor came through.

It's tasty plain and tasty dipped in sauce too 👍 Dipping it in the soy sauce added a tangy note that brought out the savoriness of the makchang while cutting through the richness completely. All the excess fat is gone, so it's not heavy at all.
Personally, eating it together with the scallion salad was the best for me! The crunchy scallions and the chewy makchang really go well together. I'd heard Taeyeong Saengmakchang was a nationally famous makchang spot, and after trying it, I get why.

Seasoned pork makchang: barely spicy, gently sweet
I also tried the pork seasoned makchang at this Seomyeon favorite, and despite being 'seasoned,' it wasn't sharp or spicy at all. The subtly sweet seasoning had soaked well into the makchang, so it was delicious even without any extras.

What I liked most was how soft the makchang itself was. There was no toughness or rubbery chew — it was chewy yet tender, so my jaw didn't hurt one bit. The seasoning wasn't overdone either, just the right amount so it didn't overpower the natural savoriness of the makchang!
Finishing with gaeguri ramyeon, made with blue crab
We also ordered gaeguri ramyeon (spicy seafood noodle soup) on top. Neoguri is my all-time favorite instant noodle, and here they cook it with crab added in, so there was no way I could skip it, ugh. They even gave us a separate burner so we could keep eating it hot the whole time — such a thoughtful touch.

I already love neoguri, and then crab on top of that? How could I resist... there was no holding back. With crab and green chili added to the neoguri, it was even more refreshing and spicy — really delicious.

The chewy neoguri noodles combined with the clean, savory depth of the crab broth made it a completely different level of quality from regular neoguri! Ramyeon really does taste better when someone else cooks it for you...

There was also a surprising amount of crab meat, which was fun to pick out and eat. Between the makchang and the ramyeon, I was completely satisfied ✨
This Bujeon-dong favorite, Taeyeong Saengmakchang, was satisfying overall — the atmosphere, the taste, and the service all delivered! Next time, I want to sit in the outdoor-style seats and enjoy makchang while feeling that cool breeze.
