With the weather turning cooler, I wanted to eat meat outdoors, tent-style, so I headed to Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom. It's the kind of place where you can sit comfortably indoors but still feel like you're eating outside — perfect for weather like this.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and open doors: an outdoor-tent feel indoors
Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom has high ceilings and full-length windows, so the whole space felt open. The doors were wide open too, so even sitting indoors, I could still feel the cool outside breeze.

At any grilled-meat place, the smell of meat can be a concern, but since it vents straight outside, it never felt stuffy, and each table had its own ventilation system, which I liked. Above all, despite being a meat restaurant, the place was clean and pleasant overall, making it comfortable to eat in.

Menu and prices: raw makchang, seasoned makchang and side dishes
As a proper makchang (beef intestine) restaurant, the grill menu at Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom offers raw makchang, seasoned makchang, and raw pork belly. For sides, there's two-plus grade hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef, ₩15,000), great as a drinking snack while the meat grills, hanwoo doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew, small ₩5,000), gegguri ramyeon (₩5,000) with both blue crab and raccoon-brand noodles, and — because no Korean meal is complete without it — finishing fried rice (₩7,000 for two)!

The table setting and mixing your own makchang dipping sauce
As soon as you order, they set the table right away. For the dipping sauce, you can add as much cheongyang chili and green onion as you like to make it to your taste. They also bring pickles, sliced radish (ssammu), and a special sauce to go with it.

The free fish cake soup that comes with every table
And they also serve fish cake soup as a standard side! Since Taeyeong grills all the meat for you, you can sip on the warm fish cake broth while waiting for the meat to arrive. Having a warm soup snack like this while you wait practically makes you want a drink. d( ̄▽ ̄*)b

How does the staff-grilled raw makchang taste?
After a short wait, the golden-grilled makchang arrived! The staff turned up the heat and told us it also tastes great cooked a bit crispier. Since it comes out already grilled to a good doneness, you just crisp up the surface a little more to your taste.

I first tried it with the classic doenjang (soybean paste) sauce. The makchang had that distinctive savory flavor, with none of the chewy, rubbery toughness — just a soft, pleasant bite. The outside was golden and nutty, while the inside stayed moist, giving a clean flavor with every chew.

Next, I tried it with shredded green onion and sliced radish. The savory, clean-tasting makchang paired with the tangy, crisp radish and green onion made my mouth feel even fresher! Eating makchang alone can get a bit greasy, but with these sides, I kept reaching for more. There was hardly any distinctive off smell, so I think it'd be easy to enjoy for makchang lovers and first-timers alike.

Finishing the meal with gegguri ramyeon (5,000 won)
And finally, the gegguri ramyeon I ordered!🦀 It was loaded with blue crab, so even from the look of it I expected a refreshing broth. The soup was spicy yet clean, with rich umami from the crab — a perfect way to finish off a meat meal. Honestly, I went back and forth between fried rice and ramyeon, but with the yajang mood and cool breeze, a bowl of ramyeon somehow called to me that day. In the end, no regrets!👏
After the makchang, a spoonful of the spicy, refreshing ramyeon broth cleaned up my palate nicely — a satisfying way to close out the meal.

Is Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom worth a visit?
If you want to enjoy the yajang mood with delicious makchang and a drink in this cool weather, Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom is worth a visit. Grilling meat yourself can be a hassle, so having the staff grill it for you felt really convenient! With a clean, pleasant space and a cool outside breeze on top of it, this is a Bujeon makchang restaurant I'll remember fondly for weather like this.
