Chodang Uga: the Gangneung beef restaurant you can bring your dog into
Gangneung Hanwoo Chodang Uga is a Gangmun-dong meat restaurant where you can eat hanwoo (Korean beef) and pork galbi (short ribs) together with your dog. When planning a trip to Gangneung, one thing that's quietly stressful is finding a restaurant you can actually bring your dog into, right?

Proper meat restaurants where you can have a real meal are harder to find than you'd think. On this Gangneung trip, while looking for somewhere I could eat with Danchu, I ended up visiting Chodang Uga, a dog-friendly restaurant in Gangneung. ^^
Where Chodang Uga is and when it opens

Chodang Uga is located on Haean-ro in Gangneung, Gangwon-do. It's fairly close to Gangmun Beach and right in front of St. John's Hotel, so it was an easy stop during our Gangneung trip!

The address for Gangneung Chodang Uga is 298-4 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, and it's open from 11 AM to 9:30 PM. There's a break time from 3 to 5 PM in between, so make sure to keep that in mind before visiting this dog-friendly Gangneung restaurant!

The interior of Chodang Uga in Gangneung was really spacious! It felt clean and open, never cramped, and there are private rooms too, which seem great for family gatherings. Most of all, what I liked was that the pet-only area is separated, so we could eat comfortably without worrying about other diners.
How Chodang Uga separates its pet seating

Chodang Uga runs its pet-friendly seating separately from the general seating. This makes it more comfortable for guests visiting with dogs, and I liked that the space is somewhat divided from guests without pets. ^^

The restaurant has thoughtful preparations for dogs too! They have dedicated dog dishes, pads, and homemade treats ready, and there's even a pet stroller you can use. Traveling with a dog means even getting one meal at a restaurant can involve a lot of small worries, so it was really nice to see these details thought through~
Chodang Uga's menu and self-serve side bar

Check out the Gangneung Chodang Uga hanwoo menu in advance too~! There's fruit-marinated seasoned beef galbi, fruit-marinated pork galbi, juicy diced sirloin, udae-galbi (thick-cut short ribs), hanwoo yukhoe (beef tartare), and for meals there's gondre yukhoe bibimbap, clear hanwoo gomtang (beef soup), chadol doenjang jjigae (stew), naengmyeon (cold noodles) and more, so the menu range is quite wide. ^^

There's also a self-serve bar, so you can help yourself to more of any side dish you're running low on! I also liked that each side dish had a cover on it, which felt hygienic.
What comes in the 500g hanwoo half-portion for 133,000 won

We ordered the hanwoo half-portion 500g menu! It comes with hanwoo grade 1+ or higher, saeujal (shrimp-shaped cut), sirloin, bujaesal (chuck flap), and chadolbagi (beef brisket). It costs ₩133,000, and there's also a full-portion menu, so you can order according to your group size. ^^
The side dishes that come with the beef

The basic side dish lineup was pretty varied too~! Another thing I found convenient while eating meat was the self-serve bar. I tend to eat a lot of lettuce wraps and side dishes with meat, so it can be a bit of a hassle to keep asking staff for more each time, but being able to grab as much as I needed myself made the meal much more relaxed haha.

Most of all, when traveling in Gangneung with a dog, the choice of restaurants often shrinks drastically, so being able to have a proper meal like hanwoo or pork galbi together with your dog is probably the biggest advantage of Gangneung Chodang Uga. ^^

Chadolbagi brisket on its own pan, shared with the dog
We grilled it up nice and golden and ate it happily! I gave Danchu a little bit of the leaner parts too haha. Since chadolbagi is fattier, they gave us a separate pan to grill it on, which made it easy to keep it apart.

It goes well with the tangy pickled onions too, and since the self-serve bar had a good variety of lettuce wraps, it was great for mixing and matching haha.

If you're planning a Gangneung trip with your dog, Gangneung Chodang Uga is a dog-friendly restaurant worth visiting at least once! It's right in front of St. John's Hotel, so it's also a great spot to stroll to on a walk—drop by without any worries~
